Shoulder Birkin 42 Gris Elephant Matte Niloticus Crocodile from Jim – Finally in Hand
A little over a month ago I posted my PSPs and asked for opinions before moving forward. A lot of people requested an update once the bag arrived, so here it is.
After spending over two weeks with it, I can confidently say this the most impressive Hermes piece I've ever owned.
Bag Details
Shoulder Birkin 42
Gris Elephant
Matte Niloticus Crocodile
Palladium Hardware
Factory: Jim
The first thing I want to rave about is that II went to my local Hermes store and was treated better than I’ve ever been, two SAs were going crazy with compliments about the bag and asking me in which store I got it.
When I unboxed it, I was taken away by the quality of the crocodile leather, OMG!!!
The scale pattern is also worth mentioning. The symmetry through the center panel is beautiful and gives the bag a really balanced look. The matte finish is exactly what I was hoping for elegant without being flashy.
The color is another highlight. Gris Elephant is one of those shades that changes depending on the lighting. Sometimes it reads as a warm grey, other times almost taupe. It's understated but somehow still grabs attention.
Construction-wise, everything feels auth. Firm handles, clean stitching, neat glazing and balanced structure.
As for the buying experience, Jim was the main reason I felt comfortable ordering such a large exotic piece. I received multiple progress updates during production, and he was always kind and polite.
