Why do cats love sitting in bags?

What is one small thing that made you feel safe while travelling alone?
I've been thinking about the little things that make solo travel easier, especially as a woman. For me, it's not usually the big safety tips, but small habits--saving my accommodation address offline,arriving somewhere before dark when possible,and having a rough idea of my route before I leave.
I'm curious what small things other female travellers do that make them feel more comfortable or confident while travelling alone?
It can be anything from practical habits to little routines you've picked up over the years.
