Heard too many negative things about accounting…

Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of negativity around accounting as a career, and it’s starting to make me question whether I’ve made the right choice.

I was browsing Seek and noticed so many accounting jobs paying what seems like the bare minimum while requiring a degree, experience, and often CA/CPA (or being close to completing it).

I’m in my early 30s but still in the early stages of my accounting career. I actually enjoy accounting, but I haven’t started CA/CPA yet, and the thought of another 3+ years of study, combined with all the talk about AI replacing accounting jobs, has me wondering if I’m investing in the wrong career.

It becomes extra hard when you got friends who are teachers, dentists, doctors… are already finished their qualifications and get decent pay.

I guess I’m just looking for a bit of perspective—and hopefully some positive stories from people who are glad they stuck with it.

CPA foundation textbooks

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping to find PDF copies of the CPA Foundation textbooks for Business Finance, Financial Accounting and Reporting, and Management Accounting, ideally from someone who has completed these subjects recently.
I’m planning to start some of the subjects later this year.

Although work is getting busy, I’d really like to get a head start and have a read through the materials if possible.

If anyone happens to have copies they’re willing to share, or could point me in the right direction, I’d really appreciate it. 🙏

Thanks!

Career change

Are any of you former accountants or people working in accounting who ended up making a career change?

Whether you moved into a completely different field, started your own business, or found another pathway — I’d genuinely love to hear about your experience.

What made you decide to change?
Was it worth it financially and personally?
Do you regret it or are you happier now?

Would really appreciate hearing honest stories and advice. Thanks!
