Obrigada!

Hi all! Being a long time stoner and having only just found this subreddit, I have a story to tell.

I am 32F, and I have a congenital left megaurether, and severe hydronephrosis on my left kidney. This all happened before I was born, and I then had two corrective surgeries that fixed whatever obstruction caused the issues, but the kidney was left enlarged and lost some of its function - although it retains most of it. It drains, however, very slowly, which is excellent for kidney stone forming there. I had a couple of clumped up stones that never gave me any grief whatsoever, and any treatment would risk damaging the kidney further. I don’t think I could ever get a stent either. So the stones were just there, and I was being monitored by a urology team.

Fast forward to January this year, I was 7 months pregnant and I felt comething come out while peeing. Because I was at the gym I didn’t try to find it in the toilet but I had a sneaky suspicion it was a stone. No symptoms, no pain. Completely forgot about it until I gave birth. As soon as they got the catheter out two stones came out. The next morning I passed another 5 or 6. Again, no pain, although to be fair I had just given birth so it would be hard to tell anyway!

As far as I could tell I had passed around a dozen stones, sizes ranging from 1mm to 5mm I’d say. After that I had a massive infection but stopped passing stones. Or so I thought.

Two weeks after the birth, after finishing a round of antibiotics the infection symptoms came back - very mild although I had kidney pain for 12 hours. Nothing major, just regular infection pain. Went to the hospital, was prescribed more antibiotics, and I thought that was the end of it.

Lo and behold, the next morning I passed around 8 stones, all around 5/6mm. And for now, that is it. I am still very confused and although I’m in close contact with a bunch of urologists, I’m scared it might happen again, or worse, that some stones might get stuck somewhere. I think my megaurether had a major role in me not having pain but it’s still scary. It happened at the worst possible time, just as I had thought it could.

Photo of all the stones I managed to collect, I estimate those to be 1/3 of the total amount I passed, or at least saw in the toilet.
