I’m about a year into my short drama journey. Those damn TikToks got me. Now I have almost 2TBs of dramas on my hard drive and not enough time in the day to ever finish them all. The definition of greed. Lately, I’ve been watching more modern than costume, but costume dramas will always be my #1.

1. Bewitching The Sovereign | 魅君 | Mei Jun
Starring: Zhou Ling Feng & Wang Haimin

Why?
The dynamics in this one are what really make it one of my faves. The chemistry is phenomenal. This is a drama that shows believable intimacy. They act like a couple who are in love and attracted to each other should behave. It also has a light BDSM undercurrent as their dynamics are essentially a dom and a sub.
Wang Haimin is perfect in the role of a favored noble consort. She is lovable, sexy, arrogant, and scheming. The problem is that she’s not very smart and trusts the wrong person. She has a winning hand in her first life and still manages to squander everything. I really enjoy stories where the characters aren’t super geniuses and have to work within the limits of average intelligence. In her second life, she slowly feels out the bounds of her relationship with the emperor and discovers truths she didn’t realize. She’s also very clear on harem dynamics, which clouded her eyes in her first life, but are used to her advantage in her second.
Meanwhile, ML is domineering and moves with the surety of someone who is used to having his orders followed immediately. He gives a command and expects it to be followed. He truly loves and indulges FL and she gets away with more than she realizes as a result. This is probably the most convincing younger emperor I’ve seen. He nails the bearing and confidence.

2. What A Good Girl | 好一个乖乖女
Starring: Ke Chun & Yu Yin
Platform: iQIYI

Why?
The emotional journey in this one is gripping. This drama does such a good job of slowly leading you through different emotions and realizations. This was the first time I’d seen certain topics explored in a short drama in a way that wasn’t just used for shock value.
At first you think FL’s character carries this drama. Outwardly she’s the “perfect woman”. Demure, refined, and talented in the arts. Inwardly, she is cunning and ruthless and will stop at nothing to get her freedom from an abusive household. She schemes against everyone, including the ML. Her characterization is more realistic than many of these short dramas. Her thought processes and actions mirror her upbringing so well. She’s learned to read everyone around her and manipulate their feelings like a chessboard.
As the story progresses you realize ML has his own depths and gives dimension to FL. ML is a committed, passionate, and loyal man who heads the criminal branch of his family. The chemistry between them is electric. You believe and feel it. Only a devoted man like that could ever move someone as traumatized as FL. The confrontation when they both lay everything on the table? The tension! Honestly, one of the most striking scenes for me was when ML cried for her. There were, in fact, several times that I cried along with ML and I’m not a crier at all. You really feel all of the emotions with this one because they take their time building the story. You need every piece. It’s just really well thought out, well written, and well acted.

3. Young Marshal, Marry Me | 少帥，嫁給我
Starring: Wang Huilong & Zhu Jingyao
Platform: YouTube — Reborn after betrayal, I chose the HATED Villain CEO. Unexpectedly, he’s loved me for YEARS!

Why?
I haven't watched many republican era dramas, but this one is fantastic! The story is really fresh and packs a punch. It takes so many twists and turns, there’s not a single boring moment. This one actually genuinely has good writing and storytelling. I thought it was going to be another cute lil changing the villain’s fate story, but things got wild. And let me tell you, 2nd FL was acting doooooooooooooown in the final act. The side characters are also all pretty robust and fleshed out. I felt like everyone acted quite naturally as well. I was fully immersed. Longer review here.

I discovered this subreddit about 18 months ago, soon after I started watching verticals. I now have a 190-page Google doc filled with shows I have watched and shows I want to watch, with detailed notes. So yes, I’m addicted, but also picky. For me, a drama has to have excellent acting and a strong script: characters that behave consistently and understandably if not logically, heroines with a spine, no tears for tears’ sake, and a happy ending.

4. A Design Forged Time | 掌心窥爱
Starring: Liu Xiao Xu and Lan Lan
Platform: 🍎 Hongguo

Why?
This drama hits all of the sweet spots: Excellent acting, especially from the leads. A script that bothers to explore personality and show character growth, so you know the ‘why’ they fall in love, as well as the ‘how’. Believable secondary characters and conflicts. Even though there are a few tropes (childhood connections, misunderstood rescues, the cheaterpants ex-fiancé), they feel real. Cinematography that helps tell the story, settings and costumes that make sense and matter.

➡️ A quiet but deeply compelling love story, an example of how artistic the vertical format can be.

5. Moonlight Love | 月染爱人 | Yue Ran Ai Ren

Wang Yi Lei & Liu Nian

Why?
Moonlight Love has dark, dangerous Wang Yi Lei and a bold and determined heroine in lush settings (the hero’s house is Neuschwanstein Castle, lol) and costumes to die for (satins, velvets, shades of every era from Victorian to modern) in a reborn gothic-styled plot with Beauty and the Beast overtones. The ML is all-in for the FL, and once she realizes it - in her second life - she is all-in for him, too. This is one of those dramas where you just immerse yourself in its world and let it take you, and having a FL who knows what she wants and isn’t going to be shy about it is very refreshing.

6. Pride and Preference | 傲慢与偏爱 | Ao Man Yu Pian Ai
Starring
Zhang Ji Jun and Meng Na

Why?
A gorgeous secret agent, dressed in a purple satin dress and white fur coat, runs through a train followed by pursuers with guns. She bursts into a private train car where a young man, pale and sickly, sits in a chair. She tells him she just needs a place to hide. She sits in his lap, puts a knife to his throat, but promises him he won’t die. But it hurts, he whispers. She kisses his throat, and he hears angels singing. In the first minute, we have the entire set-up with our dark and dangerous older spy and rich young man, dying of cancer, who is totally in her thrall.
Zhang Ji Jun does an amazing job as a young man weak with terminal cancer but ready to come back from near death and do battle for the sake of his love. Meng Na slowly reveals to him the vulnerabilities behind her powerful, sophisticated facade and they become a couple tightly bound to one another. It’s flaming hot (TT rec!, top MDL rating), slickly produced, well-scripted and acted.

Polyamorous, plus-size gal who loves Republican-era and modern-era CShorts. I started in 2024 with reading Chinese novels online (in English because I’m American, lol) advertised through Instagram. Then that changed toward the end of 2025 to CShorts and I’ve been obsessed ever since. It helps that almost every one of the cast is incredibly attractive.

7. 1937, Do You Copy? / Please Answer, 1937 / Echoes of ‘37 | 请回答****1937 | Qing Hui Da 1937

Why?
A girl drops her cell phone while in a park and it falls through a hole in the space-time continuum into 1937 right before an attack in the area by the Japanese. She is trying to solve a mystery of what happened to her grandfather in that same time frame of 1937. It falls into the hands of a wealthy heir who plays with the cell phone and is able to communicate with the FL. It is EMOTIONAL. I was sobbing by the end. It did make me look into more of the history of what China was going through during this time period. This was also my introduction to Republican-era dramas and I fell in love.

➡️ A hole in the space-time continuum brings people together through a lost cell phone but is devastating.

8. Bound to the God / Along with the Gods | 與神同行 | Yu Shen Tong Xing
Starring: Li Boyan (ML) & Sun Qianxun (FL)

Why?
A god is tricked by the grandma in a family to protect the FL. Things happen and he ends up bound to her while they figure out releasing him. He keeps having her back and protecting her reluctantly. Of course there’s the romantic aspect. But this is an unexpected lovers-through-time story with a sad, but then lovely and sweet ending. This drama introduced me to that trope. And now I’m hooked. And crave more.

➡️ Lovers across time told in a beautiful and heartbreaking way with incredibly beautiful leads.

9. Half-Mature Husband / Semi-Familiar Husband | 半熟老公 | Ban Shu Lao Gong
I was only going to do two, but then I watched this and LORDY *fans self*.
Starring: Wang Kaimu (ML) & Xu Zhenzhen (FL)
Platform: 🍎 Hongguo

Why?
What starts as a standard aloof and cold CEO arranged marriage setup where he does everything robotically. He tells her that he refuses to fall in love due to trauma. And she refuses to fall in love because she won’t fall for someone who refuses to love her (relatable, queen). She rants to her friend about how he is boring in bed. And then complains to a coworker, pretending not to know him, how he is probably boring. BUT it takes a turn because he is NOT boring and turns so incredibly steamy. At one point (1 hour 40 minutes in), I literally put my hand over my mouth and gasped. 🫢 Incredible. I was messaging people about it and sending everyone to horny jail. Also lots of shirtless WKM. In the shower. And strategically placed candles.

➡️ Steamy in the best possible way and not awkward like spicy scenes can get.

10. Captive Love from the Mob Boss | 闪婚后我成了大佬的掌中之物 | 2024
Starring: Ma Xiao Yu & Zhang Chu Xuan
Platform: YouTube

Why?
The whole and sole reason I got into C-Short dramas. I used to read mafia romance novels so maybe this was the next gateway.
ML is a mafia boss running away after being ambushed. He runs into FL who is a nurse who saves his life. It is love at first sight for ML.
As he is the richest man in the town, No is not a word he has heard, and he wrongly believes that she would be thrilled to be his wife. She is also the daughter of a policeman and sister to a fallen policeman. She has a fiancé. This does not stop our ML. He throws money, power and everything to make her fall in love but she resists. She finally gives in to save her father, and the next part is how she actually falls in love with the ML. The story is bananas, but what sells it is the chemistry. You are willing to overlook all the wrong things the ML does and root for him.

➡️ This is the OG C-Short drama that brought many of us to this subreddit. That should tell you enough about it. Watch it. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.

11. Desires | 欲念疯长 | 2025
Starring: Zhao Zhen Dong & Zhang Shan

Why?
Another yandere drama which I didn’t know I liked as a genre till I watched this drama. The ML and FL are in a relationship. One day, the FL drugs him and escapes. She lies to him that she killed their child. We later find out she ran away and raised her child alone. ML has been searching for her since then and is obsessed with getting her back.
What sold it to me was that the FL had a spine. She tried to fight back. ML also gradually changed over time and mellowed. Many misunderstandings are cleared as the story progresses. The spice in this drama is SOOO good. How they reconcile and work on their relationship makes up the rest of the story. Shoutout to the supporting characters like the driver and the child actor.

Slightly unhinged hanzi-reading, crumpet-eating, heavy metal-loving, occasional edit-making, riff-writing fansubber with a heart of gold and mind of filth. I’ve been a member of this amazing community for around 9 months, where my antics are tolerated and often unwisely encouraged. I like an angsty male lead with issues/trauma. Stick a useless sexy mask on him and I’m there so damn fast. I’m also a fan of a good comedy; if there’s a decent amount of smut in it, all the better.

12. Cage in the Palm | 掌心牢笼 | Zhǎng Xīn Láo Lóng
Starring: Li Youlin & Li Xinyi
Platform: 🍎 Hongguo 

Why?
A reborn wealthy young woman, Su Beizhi, (Li Xinyi) is assigned by her system to make the self-conscious, yet emotionally intense Fu Lu (Li Youlin) fall in love with and marry her, at which point she will be rewarded with a normal life span.

This task is complicated by the fact that Fu Lu was abducted as a child by human traffickers and held captive and abused until he was nineteen years old. As a result of his ordeal, he has been left with a crippled leg — due to it being broken as a punishment by his kidnapper — and a serious case of PTSD, the severity of which Beizhi does not comprehend until later on in their relationship. But her only option is to adapt and deal with it.
I have said before on here that this will probably always be my favourite drama, and the main reason for that is Li Youlin’s powerful and excellent performance as Fu Lu, one of the most heartwrenching I have ever seen in any medium. He brings angst, self-loathing, and genuine pathos to his very broken character. Holy moly, can that man cry.
Whenever there’s an opportunity for me to recommend this drama, you can pretty much guarantee I’m going to be all over that thread like a cheap suit singing Cage In The Palm and Li Youlin’s praises. QED.

➡️ A powerful and moving story about past trauma and healing, featuring characters with true depth and outstanding acting.

Platform: Stardust TV • YouTube — 【FULL】💔 Healing Fairy Was Forced to Marry With A Dying Man—ENDING!

Why?
Lu Shenyan (the gorgeous Li Boyi) is a wealthy CEO who has not only been paralysed in a car accident, but is also suffering from a mysterious condition which means he will die in two years if he doesn’t get more of the “secret medicine” from the elusive Infinite Divine Physician. His grandmother is desperate for him to marry, so much so that she has resorted to uploading daily videos of herself rapping to Douyin in an effort to find him a wife.
Through a series of events, he meets Mu Xiaoning (Sun Qianxun), a healing fairy who just so happens to have come down the mountain. She agrees to marry Shenyan in her sister's place, and this is when the real fun starts.
I don’t think any drama has made me laugh as much as this. You have aphrodisiac-doping, bedroom-door eavesdropping elders, the hilariously blunt and tactless Xiaoning smashing Shenyan’s legs with a massive hammer just to check whether or not he can feel it, exaggerated sprinkler-style blood-spitting, a fantastically acted body-swap scene, an overly passionate jade-obsessed auctioneer, an oral sex fake-out scene involving a thermos flask and naughty camera angle and more. It’s perfect if you just want to switch off your brain and laugh for a few hours. And we all need that sometimes, right?
Both leads are amazing, and while Li Boyan is more than just a pretty face, Sun Qianxun is the star here. She’s such a beautiful and talented comedy actress.

➡️ If you enjoy your comedy with some nice eye-candy and a heavy dose of ridiculousness and smutty innuendo, I cannot recommend this highly enough.

14. The Dark Side of the Sun | 太阳的背面 | Tai Yang De Bei Mian
Starring: Shen Haonan & Zhai Yiying

Why?
Xiao Muchen (Shen Haonan) is a patient in a psychiatric hospital and when we meet him, he is lying to the doctors assessing him, stating firmly that he cannot see nor hear the woman who is at his side whispering in his ear. Even she’s calling him a liar. The woman is Jin Chaoxi (Zhai Yiying), or more accurately, Muchen’s hallucination of her.
But Jin Chaoxi really did exist once. Four years ago, she was Muchen’s fiancée and the two were very much in love. But their future together was cruelly thwarted by the senseless brutal murder of Chaoxi. He actually encounters the murderers as they are leaving the scene and laughing, just before finding poor Chaoxi’s dead body.
Muchen has been hospitalised ever since that day, but now he wants out and manages to convince the doctors to discharge him. And what do unhinged, grief-stricken protagonists do when they’ve been unjustly robbed of the one they love the most? Why, they seek revenge, of course. And with the spectre of Chaoxi encouraging Muchen’s every move, that’s where the story really starts.
Both leads are excellent. Zhai Yiying is delightfully mischievous as the vengeful “ghost” of Chaoxi, but also very tender when she is comforting Muchen. Since she is a product of his mind, she obviously behaves how he wants her to at any given time. But Shen Haonan steals the show. He gives such a compelling performance as the tragic Muchen, breaking your heart one minute and sending chills down your spine the next.

➡️ A fantastic, unpredictable thriller with an extremely sympathetic — if disturbing and disturbed — main character.

My first steps on here were when the sub was in a four-digit members zone. Maybe six weeks old? January 2025? And I was totally new to verticals. They were raw and new (to me) — and proof that there were people out there who had the audacity to show a Chinese romance with more than a hug or a fish kiss (after 40 episodes at 45 minutes). Since then, I’ve learned searching and I’m able to identify the one or other actor. Perfect? I’m not. But I’m a fan.

15. Sugar Mommy and Her Kept Man | 金屋藏骄
Starring: Wu Tian Hao & Deng Ling Shu

Why?
A great jiejie romance — witty, smart and emotionally satisfying. She’s a successful CEO who approaches a gorgeous broke student and offers him a job as her sugar baby. He accepts with refreshing delight — and takes his new duties very seriously. 😂🔥
What makes this special isn’t just the comedy and chemistry, though. She’s one of my favorite FLs this year: intelligent, successful, generous and warm-hearted, but cautious and insecure when it comes to love. And he has the emotional stability and sky-high EQ to see straight through her defenses.
His openness, affection and devotion slowly make her feel safe enough to understand that what they have isn’t an arrangement anymore. It’s love.

Starring: Wang Hao Zhen & Lu Lulu

Why?
Wang Hao Zhen as a charming doctor who starts out cute, playful, sexy and very determined to get the nurse he had an ONS with — and then gradually reveals that underneath the white coat is basically a mob boss. 😂
This one surprised me. The first half is flirting, banter, steam and a couple who are credibly passionate. Then he screws up badly, she dumps him — and his charming mask starts slipping.
He’s strong-willed, manipulative, ruthless when necessary and absolutely incapable of accepting that she’s gone. But she is equally strong and refuses to simply forgive him because he wants her back.
That’s why it works: I completely understood why she left him, while the drama also managed to make me believe that eventually forgiving him could be a credible choice.

➡️ And WHZ? Puppy eyes, flowers, green-tea skills, fists, persuasion and morally grey determination. He’s fantastic.

Why?
She learns she has only one to three months to live — so naturally she decides that seducing her arrogant, ridiculously attractive CEO should be on the bucket list. Excellent decision. 😂
I loved that the FL is the one who confidently goes after what she wants. She’s smart, emotionally strong, naughty when she feels like it and absolutely not a meek secretary. And CTK gives us something equally welcome: a handsome CEO who is protective, caring, thoroughly love-brained — and refreshingly low on toxicity.
➡️The chemistry between Cao Tian Kai and Liu Xi Yu is excellent, the physical affection feels natural, and underneath all the steam there’s a genuinely sweet romance.
Also: best abs ever. I said what I said. Bring your 💄

And honestly, survival is the correct word here.

The show opened with 1v1 battles, fully live microphones and no vocal correction — an environment specifically designed to expose every questionable life decision ever made near a microphone. Zeng Hui chose the cheerful Only Have Feelings for You | 只对你有感觉 and went up against actor Chen Ruoxuan (陈若轩), who sang 天下.

Neither man emerged as the next great hope of Chinese music. 😂

Chinese netizens promptly christened them 卧龙凤雏 (Wòlóng Fèngchú) — originally two legendary talents, but online very often used sarcastically for two equally magnificent disasters.

Still: 765 vs 748. Zeng Hui won by 17 votes.

That matters because the initial stage determines who gets advantages going into 一公 — the First Public Performance. It’s watching performers leave their own field, get thrown into something they absolutely cannot already do, form teams and somehow build a stage out of it.

Zeng Hui came from short dramas.

It starts with betrayal and some genuinely painful scenes, then mellows into something tender, romantic and very much about timing. The letter, the title, their names, the rain imagery — it all comes together beautifully. 
You need to be in the mood for it. Sit down, have some tea and let the story unfold. 🌧️🌱
NB: This drama does deliver on the slow BURN. These two are amazing.  🔥😇!

She’s been married for two years, but their marital life is basically nonexistent. He’s either on a business trip or tired. Her bestie speaks wise words: Two years of dead bedroom? He’s either gay or has someone else.
So Shi Sui takes a closer look — and finds out he’s cheating. And she knows the other woman: it’s a yoga teacher, who is married to Song Zhijie.
Shi Sui arranges a meeting with him. Tells him.
From then on, these two keep crossing paths and supporting each other through the emotional turmoil.
It’s not exactly a meet-cute, and it’s definitely not a good time for romance.
But maybe it’s about someone arriving at the right time.

First of all: it’s a very good production with beautiful cinematography. 

And as a starting point for our conversation, I present the letter. 

🚨We’re deep inside spoiler country now.🚨

After their first night together - she runs. It’s too much too soon. He is patient and

💌 Song Zhijie writes to Shi Sui:

“When I picked up my pen to write this letter to you, a line of poetry suddenly came to mind:
‘Good rain knows its season; when spring comes, it brings forth life.’
Before I met you, I never thought these words were particularly beautiful.
It wasn’t until you appeared in my world that I finally understood: someone’s arrival can be like spring rain — quiet and unnoticed, yet arriving at exactly the right moment.
Neither too early nor too late, just in time to moisten all the hopes in me that had run dry.
It’s raining in the old town again now, much like the rain when I first met you. Fine and gentle, soundless — yet enough to make a green I had never known before begin to grow in the soil of my heart.”

Our thoughts:

🍿 I know it’s not the usual style. A letter that leans heavily into ancient poetry at the start of this review.
But I couldn’t resist. Because it’s spot on.
🧝‍♀️ How romantic is this. Thanks for adding this, Silver. It was lost in translation for me.
🍿 My impression: both had a first marriage with someone that fit on the outside. “He/she was a match”. While these two are literally in sync. They say the same thing in unison. They both love mint (symbol for clarity & a long-lasting love). They constantly meet because they roll the same way. It looks like it’s fate because they match on the inside.
☕️ Having that letter in her possession for several days after receiving it to opening it right when doubts and overthinking started for her was spot on.
🍿 That he could write this, a confession full of hope — after she ran away after their first night.
🧝‍♀️ The story starts with a bang — confrontation. I was expecting more fireworks but surprisingly the story mellowed.
☕️ I kind of felt that feelings started for him right at the beginning. I think in a way he thought she was brave for coming to him. Which also put him in protective mode. 
✒️  I too think he fell in love with her at first sight. It kind of brought out his inner protective nature. 
🍿 It’s an observational drama, to learn what’s important and what love is. And her first step is finding an ally — and to talk about it, finally.
🧝‍♀️ The most famous case of such a story that I had heard of in real life was Shania Twain and her ex BFF and her husband. It was the BFF’s husband who told Shania the truth and they actually fell in love and got married. I remember watching her on Oprah and thinking how that must feel like. Here this story is brought to life on the short drama stage.
☕️ A beautiful letter, with an important message of love in the right moment. This drama felt big with fate and how they were intertwined.
✒️ I kept wanting to remind her about the letter. Esp. because I learned about the letter before she got it. And oh my god, no wonder she melted after the letter. And it’s like fate intervened when the letter popped out of her bag — as if fate knew that she was ruminating about her reflex action on seeing Zhijie’s ex.
☕️ Which was a genuine gesture. She wasn’t sure how society would view their love. She didn’t want a confrontation. She also wasn’t sure what he thought or if he wanted the exes to know.
🍿Insecurities, still.

🌱 And their names make the title even better

He is Song Zhijie. She is Shi Sui.
The title comes from a famous Du Fu poem:
“Good rain knows its season; when spring comes, it brings forth life.”
And their names are woven right into it: parts of Zhijie and Shi combine to form the Chinese words for “knows its season.”
Even Sui fits the imagery: her name means an ear of grain — something that grows and ripens after the rain.

🍿 It’s so romantic — you need to be in the mood for it. Sit down, have some tea and let the story unfold.
🧝‍♀️ Reminds me of the Royal Nemesis ML and FL names and their combination, which has an impact on the story. I like this touch.
☕️ Stop it. I didn’t know that and now it just got cuter.
✒️ Wow, that makes the story even lovelier.

The scene in the party where the cheating is too blatant to ignore

After the first confrontation, the FL meets the ML at a party with their respective scumbag spouses. They are not only cheaters but dumb cheaters and use the guise of the party to do the “devil’s tango”.
🧝‍♀️ What an impactful scene.
The pain of the cheated spouses and how they both offer comfort to each other by blocking the sounds. Both ML and FL are wonderful actors, and this scene proves why.
🍿 It’s a nightmare. You’re hiding from the guilty party (!). You do not confront them; you’re not ready yet. And your cheating spouses do the vertical tango right at the door to your hiding spot. All the noise — and your mind is delivering the pics. So hurtful.
☕️ This. Scene. Hit. Hard. Some of us have been here. This dirty thing called cheating happens all over the world every single day. So the emotions that they portrayed were like a gut punch to the feels.
🍿 That both try to protect the other from the worst shows their kindness. He’s covering her ears with his hands, and she removes his hearing aid.
✒️ The fact that they were already caring for each other before that happened makes it even more impactful. He saw her nervously eating lychees after seeing the cheating pair, then watched her walk off because she got her period, helped her buy the pads and a new dress. And just when they were going to leave at one point, the cheating pair came along and confirmed all their suspicions. There was something in the way they looked at each other, like “see, I told you they were cheating on us” and “I wish it weren’t true”. And to have it so blatantly proven true is pretty cruel, yet necessary.

Evil mother-in-law

🧝‍♀️ I can see why the son behaved so entitled and didn’t show remorse. What a nut job.
🍿 I thought he’s taught to see marriage as a business. She fits because the numbers work in your favour. And when it’s over: protect the assets. No moral values in sight.
🧝‍♀️ I loved how the ML looks out for the FL and gives her a heads-up about the MIL.
☕️ The strength Shi Sui portrayed in this was massive. I can hold a lot in, but after the devastation that man put her through and then just to be talked down upon by the MIL would have me in an uproar.
🧝‍♀️ Why is divorce looked down upon in Korea and China too? If anyone can enlighten me about the cultural significance.
☕️ It boils down to Confucian values and traditions of the family unit above one’s self-happiness, saving face, as divorce is looked at as a failure in the community, and the double standard of genders that the men are better than women and women should just take the blame.
🧝‍♀️Now it makes sense. I always wondered
🍿 Her ex trying to shift the blame for cheating — it’s textbook DARVO.
☕️ 🙂‍↕️ A complete narcissist.
🧝‍♀️ He is such a jackass. Good on the FL asking for her share in the property. I liked that the ML helped her with a lawyer.
☕️ But as both Shi Sui and Song Zhijie portrayed, divorce can be a beautiful new beginning. It is for most of us.
🍿 I’m still waiting for a WHZ … 💕
☕️ As someone who is single? Same. LOL and that slow smile that lights his whole face like he just saw the sun for the first time?! Omg I squealed.
✒️ I was not expecting the MIL to be understanding the moment she blamed her for having a “tantrum”. Good thing he gave her a heads-up and offered her legal help.
☕️ He saw a girl being taken advantage of and being wronged, and he made it right. I loved that about him.

Questions remain

Why was he poisoned?
✒️ And how did he become deaf? Was it because of the poison?
☕️ It was effects due to the poison, yes.
🧝‍♀️ I completely forgot about this part. Do you think it is the ex-wife? She married him due to financial constraints and wanted to lash out?
🍿 Timeline. They married after he was attacked and from the his side, this marriage  was about showing his parents that he was coping fine.
✒️ I think it was a vengeful patient’s relative. The ex-wife only switched from one man to another and didn’t have the brains to hatch such a plot. Plus, she didn’t have to, as long as she had the resources to cheat on him, she couldn’t kill the goose laying the golden egg.
☕️ Or it could have been someone who was jealous of his academics in research and went after him but I think you nailed it.
🍿But why did his hearing prevent him from working as a doctor?????
🧝‍♀️I watch too much Grey’s Anatomy. Maybe to react in an emergency.
☕️ That’s something I wondered as well? Maybe because he couldn’t do surgeries without hearing others around him? 
🍿Hearing aids! 
☕️ What if they stopped working during the process? Could be the issue.  🤷🏻‍♀️ 
🍿or it’s his control, that his coordination isn’t as good as before 
☕️ He could just be nervous of being in that setting again after being attacked as well. 
🍿This part isn’t explained very well: it’s just the set-up. Damaged genius surgeon.
☕️ Agreed. But throughout the show he continues to show us that he’s still a massive catch. 

Other Notes

✒️ I, for one, was not very happy with the pace of the first half when the cheating is revealed. But then I also understand that, as “good people” and the victims, they could not reveal their own concern for each other too openly, lest they get blamed for cheating. This way they got off clean.

🍿 Sometimes emotions creep into your life. They’re both focused on dealing with their marriage. So they push it aside. They took their time showing us, that they had to cut ties in all areas.
☕️ As someone who was cheated on, I felt it when it happened to me. I could not handle the jealousy. I acted out right away. I felt that I needed to be vindicated, but seeing how this show portrayed the beginning, I actually kind of think it’s admirable that she got all of her affairs in order before she confronted him, but that comes along with more pain that may or may not have been needed. She also had to face the fact that she would be facing criticism from society and her own mother.
🍿Sometimes when it’s more complicated (kids, finances), it takes years until everything is in place. 
✒️ I loved how much they were in sync with each other.
☕️ I feel like this happens a lot in society, where two people cheat while married and then during the divorce, the spouses end up being more perfect and suited for each other than their previous spouses. It’s fascinating to see.
✒️ I also loved his transformation from a serious professor to a lovesick puppy. The way they both open up as they fall in love — they learn to tease each other, care for each other openly.
☕️ Agreed! I felt like it was very beautiful to see how they weren’t genuinely happy in their relationship prior and are now in a very loving and exciting relationship.

✒️ I was a little upset with her mother, and I also thought it was kind of Shi Sui’s fault for not telling her mother. She should have considered that this news could reach her mother from someone else. I wasn’t sure why her mother was upset — whether it was that she got divorced or that she didn’t tell her about her divorce or both. Nonetheless, I’m glad her mother came around and accepted the truth. I’m sure she also saw how happy her daughter was after getting divorced.
☕️ Yeah, her mother was angry that she was divorced and the fact that she didn’t tell her. She (the mother) always believed that having a husband meant that you would be doing well in life, no matter if you were happy or not, but after realising that he had an affair on her daughter, she realised that her daughter was capable as a working woman and could take care of herself.

✒️ I loved drunk Wang Haozhen… he was adorable.
🧝‍♀️OMG . I loved him here. He looked so cute and was so adorable. I have never seen such a cute ML who is drunk.
☕️ The puppy sounds they kept putting over top of him were so cute.
🍿 It was very cute and pure fan service.
✒️ I waited till the end to see the cheating couple get their just desserts, and I was so happy when it happened right in front of Zhijie and Sui. I loved how shamelessly they flaunted their relationship in front of her ex, and it didn’t even look fake! It was so real, only a little over-the-top for show’s sake. 😁
🍿 The one hit worst is the ex-husband because he was in love.
☕️ Oh, this part made me laugh. That was actually quite funny. He did get his comeuppance and that made me feel really happy, but I also felt like his ex should have gotten her comeuppance as well.
🍿 The ex-wife? She’s chasing thrills, and she’s crude. Her karma may arrive later. And calling WHZ disabled — and she told him right at the start she wouldn’t sleep with him Ninth hell has a place for her.

✒️ Overall, I felt the underlying theme was “mint”. It shows mainly in her wardrobe. Mostly, her dresses were green. Her wardrobe is my dream wardrobe. I love how she carried jeans. 
🧝‍♀️Wow this was deep. I didn’t clock this connection.
🍿Their favorite plant - and it’s long lasting love. 

✒️ Additionally, the second couple - the cousin/assistant and her friend - is so cute. Their feelings become so obvious in the drunk scene, when he asks the bestie, “why did you come?” “I had nothing else to do”
🧝‍♀️She was so funny and a great friend.
🍿I’m rooting for them! 
🧝‍♀️I also felt the village acted as a 4th character and healed both the ML and FL with its calmness. Food was also a supporting character. This drama gave me a lot of tiny things to watch out for which added to the story.

💕The Romance

It’s so good and worth the wait!  And when they finally admit their attraction-  the air burns - and after they had both confessed, they were so natural. She was the one asking him, “We’re now girlfriend/ boyfriend since three days- what about doing more adult stuff“. 

Plus how he managed to hold back before! He was already in love with her when he was moving out, a good while before the divorce. You saw it in his face; he liked her, and he wanted her. I don’t judge him because they had no relationship at all. No expectations, and so he wasn’t hurt as bad as the FL, who had the idea that this was it. Her husband for life.

Reason 1: It’s a great story, not copypasted from 50 other previous dramas, and it bothers to dive deep, realistically, into why these characters act the way they do: their histories, fears, passions, and dreams. It’s a quality production every step of the way with great direction and camera work, lighting (watch the use of gold light) and costuming.
Reason 2: Guo Yuxin may apparently have an ego as big as all outdoors, but she’s got the acting chops to make it justified. Put her together with the equally talented Zhang Chi and the performance is amazing. It really felt more like a movie, especially one protracted scene - over 15 minutes, just the leads in a series of what amounts to dramatic monologues: impressive in all respects.

Sometimes, you just want something cute and funny. No angst, no poisonings, no truck of doom, no rivers of tears over pancakes of sorrow - is that too much to ask? Apparently so, which is why this frothy time-travel office comedy is on my ‘best of’ list. The way tropes are twisted here is just delightful: the time-traveller is not one of our couple, it’s her younger brother; Chen Si is playing his usual cold CEO, but one with a secret tramp stamp; Han Yutong is no Cinderella, she’s a feisty, venal accountant. I laughed. A lot.
➡️ A time-travel, office romance, family comedy all mixed together; hijinks ensue, and even on a bad day you will smile.

He’s “the ninth young master of the powerful Tang clan and a skilled surgeon.” Her venal mother is trying to sell her to the highest bidder, so she sets a trap for him, the suitor she’s picked out. Little does she know, he’s already all in, 100%, in her corner and ready to help her up and keep her at his side. 
She needs helping, because she is dealing with a lot of enemies and the mother from hell, and Zhu Xiao Xue does a great job portraying someone cool and confident on the outside but a bundle of fears and insecurities on the inside, mixed with a heavy dose of insane chemistry with Yao Guan Yu. He is the most perfect suitor ever: hot, smart, powerful, understanding, romantic, and in love.
➡️ A lush, well-acted, deeply romantic drama obviously with tons of money behind it, so it is escapist fare at its finest.

This was a memorable one for me as it was my first collaborative review with my fellow CShort members MOD silver and u/lauranevitt. It was not an easy watch but I felt for the first time I had seen a frank discussion on an ML’s mental health and an FL who was not very likable.
The FL is forced into marriage with the ML due to her family’s financial problems and blames ML for it. She incorrectly assumes he trapped her. She has a child with the ML and leaves him for 5 years. She returns to fix her mistakes once she realizes who really was at fault.
WHZ plays his heart out. You can feel his yearning, his pain. The bedroom scenes finally have some spice in them . Jin Zi is unlikable initially but you see her make efforts to fix her relationship with her son. Lot of difficult discussions around stigmatized topics like depression in men, postpartum depression and heartbreak.. I will commend the writers for putting forward such discussions even though there is a long way to go.
➡️ Not an easy watch but I feel the payoff is worth it.

Why?
Lan Lan plays Jiang Yining, a young woman who is framed by her stepmother for causing a fake miscarriage. Rather than be punished for something she didn’t do by her stupid gullible father, she chooses to run away from home and – desperate for a fresh start – agrees to marry the disabled, wealthy but shady businessman Shen Zhizhou due to an open proposal notice distributed by his mother which fortuitously flies into Yining’s face. The gloomy Zhizhou is not happy with this arrangement, and vulgar, loud Yining annoys the heck out of him, but he reluctantly gives her a chance and is moved by her steadfast loyalty towards him as they work together to try to help him regain his former glory.
Both leads are excellent, Wang Jiamao is very handsome and moody as Shen Zhizhou, but Lan Lan steals the show here. She’s funny, assertive, and very forward in the bedroom department, but still manages to be tender and compassionate when the need arises. As tactless, insensitive, and offensive as she is at times, we need more female characters like Yining.
➡️ A love story with some hilarious, ridiculous, and spicy comedic moments

Why?
Li Lizai plays Su Lingyu, a young woman who suffers from separation anxiety due to a traumatic childhood experience. She is aware that this can make her behave in a needy and annoying manner towards others, especially her boyfriend who at the start of the story has had just about enough of her and abandons her at an airport while her flight is delayed until the next day. During her wait, she meets her boyfriend’s young uncle Jiang Yuli (Yan Zixian) who has just returned from many years abroad and keeps her company overnight. Lingyu is pre-emptively apologetic to him, explaining the reasons for her overbearing personality, but little does she know that Yuli has been starved for affection his whole life and actually welcomes Lingyu’s clinginess; he even complains to himself at one point that she isn’t clingy enough! Their relationship, while ultimately dysfunctional, actually works and the little caring interactions between the two are just so very sweet.
Li Lizai is as adorable and beautiful as ever, but I would say Yan Zixian was my favourite of the two. While it would have been easy to make Yuli a melodramatic character, Yan Zixian’s performance is restrained and subtle, making the moments when the cracks do appear in his seemingly cold facade and he does show some emotion that much more impactful.
➡️ A beautiful love story between two very damaged people who find solace and healing in each other.

What I loved about this drama? Zhou Yuli never once entertained the whole “childhood sweetheart/white moonlight” nonsense. He saw Sang Nian at that blind date and basically thought, “Yep. Her. I’ll take her.”
Even through all the misunderstandings, there was never that frustrating “I don’t care about my wife while secretly pining for another woman” nonsense. He chose her—and kept choosing her.
And the chemistry?! WAY. OFF. THE. CHARTS. These two brought so much passion to every scene, I swear my phone needed a warning label. They didn’t just have chemistry—they were practically trying to set the screen on fire!
➡️ Sang Nian fell first, but Zhou Yuli fell harder, faster, and straight into the “completely whipped husband” territory.😂❤️

Watching them accidentally fall in love twice—online and offline—was absolutely my kind of chaos!

FL transmigrates into the evil wife of a villainous, disabled, fugitive, ex-general. They spend the drama accidentally murdering people and collecting friends, whom from another perspective, are quite unsavory. Despite all of this, this one actually has one of my biggest “aaaah that’s so romantic” moments of the year. Without spoiling, ML is terrified FL will disappear and the reason why makes me swoon. I was really sad when this one ended
➡️ Writing all this made me want to rewatch like I don’t already have enough dramas to get through so that’s my endorsement

I’d never watched these leads before, but I absolutely loved it. FL gains a system and is shown a dream in which she is the villainous side character in a male-oriented counterattack novel where she and the ML were switched at birth. She of course, has a Bad End in this dream. Her solution to avoid her tragic fate? Get pregnant with ML’s baby as soon as possible. This one is so sweet and they make such a charming couple. FL is not shy about what she wants and he’s so loving and devoted. The drama actually avoids a lot of the typical cliches and doesn’t go the way you think it will. The ending was also so satisfying and romantic. I’ve never seen that choice made before.

Meanwhile, he’s an overbearing, green tea yandere who plays her like a fiddle. ML is one of those yandere’s whose logic is so sound that you end up nodding along. Like you know what? He’s right. Maybe he should put her in a cage 🤔

The two meet prematurely, and amidst suspicion and testing, they uncover each other’s secrets of rebirth and glimpse each other’s true nature.
One of my favorite dramas, and not just of 2026. JJL is so good in this, and so is the FL. Their kisses register as passionately real, which is a lovely bonus. I might rewatch this this weekend.

And then the final scene left it possible for a season 2 (which we got and I enjoyed even if it was emotionally devastating in a different way, but i understand a lot of people did not enjoy it). He doesn’t want anything to do with her. But it turns into a beautiful story set in the Tibetan mountain area, with so many things going wrong and going right and then a little heartbreaking. But while it seems to be a sad-ish ending, I took it to be more hopeful. And honestly, I’m still thinking of this one months later.
➡️ A little bit of everything told through a well-written story, beautiful cinematography, incredible scenery, and excellent cast.

Sun Lu comes from an influential family that has lovingly managed every aspect of her life—including her future husband. Then she meets Chen Xudong. He’s an easy-going fish shop owner. Sun Lu sees him, likes him, and for once decides that everyone else’s opinion can wait.

➡️ Hei Ze completely won me over. His chocolate eyes could smelt iron—which I’m not.

And that matters.
The Hundred Flowers are one of China’s major film awards, and this year short dramas have their own Short Drama Honors Unit (短剧荣誉单元). Having vertical actors officially invited into that space — red carpet, ceremony and industry exchange — feels like another little sign of acceptance by the wider film industry.

And WYL has a very good reason to be there. 😎
A Family of Three in the Same Class | 《一家三口在同班》 | Yī Jiā Sān Kǒu Zài Tóng Bān received a Hundred Flowers Short Drama honor. The drama stars Wang Yilei, Wang Xiaoyi and Zhang Chi and has already had a part 2 and a film adaptation is in the works.

But let’s not forget the others. Wang Yiran, Wang Yunyun, Xia Tian, Xia Weijie, Yi Hang and Yu Yin are part of this moment too — and I love seeing more familiar vertical-drama faces welcomed onto a mainstream film-industry red carpet.

And personally?
I’m just really happy to see Wang Yilei testing the waters in the spotlight again. 🥹
