Finally getting the hang on my terminal Vim LaTeX setup!

I posted here a few weeks back about trying out doing latex on my local machine after doing overleaf for years. Had to quit because of their compile limit times. I originally thought it was more of a hassle, installing Miktex and other shit. Anyway, weeks now, yeah, the setup's great! I use it now to follow university lectures almost in real time and write some gorgeous looking notes. It's great not to worry about internet connections and being able to write shit offline without worrying about Overleaf's servers crashing or something like that.

I tried TexWorks during this time, and TexStudio, but I am more used to using vim and the vim motions make it so I can write and edit quite fast, pretty handy during lectures, so I just kept on using my vim setup.

Also, using sumatrapdf as a viewer was a big plus, it updates automatically when compiled, so I get to see the changes immediately. Pretty nice.

Something essential I learned while doing this is using the UltiSnips plugin for Vim, detailed by this blog, so I can use snippets to quickly autofill and make environments, and configuring my vimrc file so that pressing F5 automatically compiles the document, along with linting with vimtex. Multiple tabs on command prompt is also great, I use it to manage larger documents.

Yeah, so far so good. All in all, making the transition to local compiling was a great decision and very worth it, is all I wanna say. Cheers!

Rereading the trilogy again after some years. Man. Cheng Xin is so fucking stupid.

First is running for the swordholder position out of maternal instinct when she had no place to do so.

Second, failing to initiate the deterrence broadcast when the Trisolarans attacked because she let her emotions get the better of her.

Third, stopping Wade on making the lightspeed ships.

Jesus Christ, I know Wade was written to be a foil to Cheng Xin, and Cheng Xin was chosen because humanity wanted a gentler figure after Luo Ji, but man, all her actions are based on emotions and maternal instinct bullshit instead of actually looking ahead to the future and logically thinking what would happen if things played out one way or the other. She isn't the person that's supposed to be making decisions and yet every damn time she's placed in a position where she does, even though countless other people might have made the better call.

I read the trilogy before, but man, experiencing Death's End again and seeing Cheng Xin have all the opportunities to succeed for all of humanity, and she manages to fumble it every single time, makes my blood boil. I know this opinion has been said again and again, but I simply have to share it because it frustrates me so much.

And she gets to survive at the end!???

Tried out running LaTeX locally. I'm using Vim on the command line and Sumatrapdf as a viewer combo. Pretty neat!

First time trying out locally doing latex on my own machine after doing it on overleaf for several years. Simply got tired of their compile-time limits not able to deal with my longer documents and had this as my solution. It's pretty cool! Vim is very configurable and I can write as quick if not quicker as I do in overleaf. Anyway, just wanted to share this, cheers!
