Good or bad offer? English Teaching

TEFL in public university, pays 11k and workload is 8 classes (16teaching hours).

Native, 1yr prev exp.

Just feels like a good chunk of work for mid pay.

I was told uni is where it’s at cause of free time but I’m not seeing the vision. Is this offer pretty good, average, decent, or is it kind of bad?

East side of Wuhan.

Cross province Didi fees?

Planning to use Didi to move cross province because I’m traveling with a pet, I scheduled the drive a few days in advance.

The driver is saying I need to pay the tolls round trip even though the platform does not charge me this? Is this typical or bs? I understand paying tolls on the way there but paying them back for a trip I’m not a part of seems odd for the didi app not to charge me this automatically…

Please give your personal experience only

Thanks!

Edit: half say it’s a scam, the other half says it’s normal.

Hubei Second Normal University (Hubei university of education)

Does anyone have insight on this school? I cannot find anything online. What is it like to live in this part of the city? How much does rent and food cost here? Anything nearby worth checking out as far as malls and international food? What is the best local cuisine in Wuhan, particularly this area? All opinions or personal experiences are welcome.

Stay visas x2?

I’ll try to make this short - is it legally possible to apply for a stay visa twice as they only last 30 days?

Situation: in the middle of transferring work permit to another province, contract ends July 1st, new one is sept 1st (2 month gap). Applying for new work permit does not seem like an issue but the residence permit does. Henan to hubei if that makes any difference. Please only offer advice based on personal experience.

Thank you

Has anyone worked at this school before? Please share any info you have. Seems to be on the smaller side and cannot find any information.

Thank you.

Have to move, breaking lease early. Landlord issue

Do I have any legal obligation to open the apartment for showing to future tenets as I’m still leasing and have paid for the current month (leaving at the end of the month). It is quite inconvenient as I have my personal belongings all over the place, sensitive paperwork, etc… I have already told the landlord I’m not okay with anyone viewing the apartment but keeps insisting. Also have a pet that isn’t very social to strangers either. Landlord being very snakey as well, asking for the door code for random “property management checks” as I look through the peep hole to see a random agent and random strangers trying to open the door…

What do I do?

Update: I am terminating the contract early, I’m absolutely okay with losing the deposit.

Moving advice (within China)

Getting ready to move to another province. Maybe 5hr drive or 2hr train ride. Changing jobs in the ESL market, looking for advice on moving within China such as logistics and what to be careful of paperwork wise.

Currently waiting on release docs from current employer so the new employer can apply for new permit. Wife and I are moving with some items that can’t be packed in suitcases and a small pet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Debating on using high speed rail but doing so with a pet is inconvenient and not foreigner friendly. (Last minute certificates needed and reserving is difficult as I cannot read Chinese at all). Driving in a Didi for 5 hours sounds like a carsick nightmare.

Any advice from anyone that has personally gone through a similar process as a foreigner is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Recently looking into changing schools (not by choice) due to higher-ups not being clear about renewals (they over-hired). For context I’m in a “technical” new tier 1 city, making 14,700rmb after tax at a university where I work maybe 4 hrs a week (contracted for 12-15). 60% winter pay. Currently being offered a position in a nicer new tier 1 city but pay is 11,000rmb, full pay winter plus 8,000 end of semester (travel/vacation bonuses) for 16hrs a week, which when dispersed comes out around 12,750rmb before tax.

I only have a bachelor’s, TEFL, and the one year of university experience at my current job. I remember last year around the same time the average pay for unis were around 12-14k but now they seem to be hovering around 10k or a little more sometimes ever less.

I can’t really tell if this is a good offer or not, I’m still very new to the whole ESL in China thing. I also don’t know if my current school will offer a renewal, I only have 2 months left till my visa expires. Leaving China and re-entering is not an option so we are trying to plan ahead and be prepared to transfer rather than deal with the hassle and long haul from the US. My wife and I are in the same boat (it’s not like all universities have more than one vacancy so finding a university with more than one opening is more difficult in the first place) where we can work at the same school. We both are native speakers. Any honest advice from those who have knowledge on the current market for ESL in China universities. I am worried about making the new offer “wait-and-see” and they go to find other candidates. However losing 2k+ (x2) in salary and contractually working more sounds awful but I have nothing to compare. Thanks in advance.
