Dealer changed Price after sending purchase agreement
My wife is in need of a new vehicle she’s been driving the same POS car for the last 12 years. We decided to start looking at some used vehicles. After some test drives she really liked the Grand Cherokee L’s.
Last Wednesday we decided to check out some cars, the last stop we made was to a used Ford dealership. We found the perfect car for us. 2023 Grand Cherokee L Limited fully loaded, original sticker was 61k. Haven’t seen one like it on any lots. It ended up being a little outside our budget. They wanted $33k, but they would give $3500 no matter the condition of the trade in, which seemed like a positive in our case since the vehicle is not worth that much. After the trade in and fees/ taxes it would be $31600 out the door. We decided to walk for the time being.
Couple days ago my wife saw they dropped the price a little bit so today I decided to reach out to the sales person that helped us. Said I was still interested in the vehicle, but was hoping they could knock it down a little more. He said he would see what he could do. 10-15 minutes ago by and I get a email with a purchase agreement for $30800 + the $3500 trade in, out the door at $29300 taxes included in this price. This was right in our price range and told him I would be in after work to finalize everything. He told me congratulations the car is yours.
1 hour before I’m getting ready to leave I get a call from one of the sales managers saying there must of been a mistake and the price that was sent over was not correct & they would not be willing to sell the car for that price. I asked to speak to the general manager and long story short he said he would not sell the vehicle for that price, but he would do $30500 out the door.
The agreement was never signed, but I just feel like deal should be honored and it was pulled right from under me. 7 hours had passed before they notified me that the price was wrong. Am I over reacting and should take the deal of an extra 1K off, or should they honor their mistake?
