ChessOS: Chess without Linux bloat

Requirements: x86 with legacy BIOS support

I spent about six months making an operating system whose only job is playing chess. It boots straight into Chess. It is not a full OS with a file system or scheduling but it can boot from bare metal.

It runs in QEMU, other virtual machines and hardware with legacy BIOS from a USB or CD drive. I spent about 6 months across the boot loader and chess engine. It is entirely open-source for you to tinker with. There is also a Windows Installer for less technical users.

All feedback is welcome!

Many people who tend to compain about the current job market have done nothing throughout their time in University

I'm currently a Junior (<T100 school) and I have had two group projects in the past and started a new one recently. Something that I have noticed from my peers is that all of them with a sole exception have nothing on their Githubs or Resumes.

  • NO PROJECTS
  • NO PASSION
  • NO SKILLS
  • NOTHING

It always struck me as strange. I might have a few projects that people use (and quite simple) and I still have to go out of my way to land an internship while many of my peers do literally nothing apart from school projects and expect to succeed with flying colors. Dispite this, I hear constant groaning from people saying the "Market is cooked bro" and "I can't do anything."

Is the market screwed sideways? Absolutley, theres no doubt about it and it would be very unwise to pretend that everything is business as usual. However, (if your are not going to a T50 school) most of your peers are legitimately costing by - doing the bare minimum and having AI doing all their assignments. What percent of compainers are just coasters? They're not even trying to game the system by vibing coding a few apps or websites. They're just doing nothing. Don't even get me started on some of the resumes I've seen aswell.
