Navigating restaurants/wedding venue on an EoE dairy free elimination diet (including cross contamination) — realistic?

Hi Everyone.

I am not sure if this post is allowed. Please delete if not allowed.

I’ve been on a dairy-free elimination diet for EoE for about 6 weeks, and it’s gone well—I’ve been cooking all my meals at home to avoid any cross-contamination. I have to eliminate dairy for 3 months to see if dairy is the trigger food. I have a couple of big events coming up, including my sibling’s wedding, where I’m part of the bridal party and will be at the venue all day, as well as at the rehearsal dinner.

I haven’t eaten at a restaurant since starting this dairy-free elimination diet, so I’m a little nervous about navigating catered food and restaurant/diner meals without slipping up. Do you think it’s realistic to eat at restaurants/diners and the wedding venue while staying strict about avoiding dairy (including cross-contamination). And if so, what’s the best way to order carefully and avoid cross-contamination when eating outside the home?

Any tips from people who’ve dealt with a similar situation—especially at weddings, rehearsal dinners, or restaurants/diners—would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks!

How long to wait to kiss after partner eats trigger food? (Elimination diet cross-contamination)

If someone eats a trigger food while their partner is doing an elimination diet for EoE, how long do you wait to kiss to avoid cross-contamination?

I want to be as accurate as possible with identifying my triggers (and keep my elimination diet / upcoming endoscopy results clean), so any experiences or strategies would be really appreciated (e.g., waiting X hours, brushing teeth, rinsing, etc.)

Elimination Diet Question

Hi everyone,

I am currently doing a strict dairy-free elimination diet for EoE. When you are in the elimination phase, do you avoid foods with precautionary labels like "made in a facility with dairy" or "manufactured on shared equipment"?

I know these labels are completely optional in the US and that almost everything is made on shared lines, so I'm trying to figure out if being this strict is necessary to get clean results for my upcoming scope, or if it's overkill. I want to avoid actual cross-contamination as much as possible.

Bonus question: Let's say my elimination diet is over and dairy turns out to be my official trigger. Do you guys eat foods with those "shared facility" labels long-term, or do you have to avoid them forever?
Thanks in advance for the insight!

New to EoE – Looking for Advice on the Elimination Diet

Hi everyone. I was recently diagnosed with EoE. I am currently on a PPI, but I am going to taper off and start an elimination diet. I plan to begin a strict dairy-free elimination diet on Sunday, July 5th. Right now, I am using the Fig app to help me identify dairy-free products.

Do you recommend any resources, websites, cookbooks, or recipes that were helpful for you when starting an elimination diet?

I also have a few questions:

  1. How long did you stay on the elimination diet before having a follow-up endoscopy to check for results?

  2. Did you eliminate one food group at a time, or did you start with all six food groups at once?

  3. My GI doctor said that if dairy is not my trigger food, I would then eliminate both dairy and wheat for a period of time and have another endoscopy. Has anyone else followed this approach?

  4. During the elimination diet, did you cook all of your meals and avoid restaurants to minimize the risk of cross-contamination, or did you still eat out occasionally?

  5. I have some hair products and body lotions that may contain dairy ingredients. Can I still use these products while doing a strict dairy-free elimination diet, or do you avoid them as well?

I want to make sure I am doing the elimination diet as accurately as possible.

Thank you so much for your help and advice!
