I’m going on a family trip to the rockys soon and am looking to fish on my own while they probably sleep in lol, I’m down to catch anything! Any recommendations on any local spots ?

I’m going to be in Newport, California next week and I’m looking for any and all advice for catching anything from the surf. I don’t have high hopes, I just wanna catch something! I was hoping somebody could share any of their confidence rigs / lures / baits. I plan on running some Carolina rigs with sand fleas that I’ll (hopefully) find out there. If no sand fleas than some fishbites. I’ll also probably hit a pier or a marina or two. Any recommendations?
