SOROCK Trial

There is a trial happening where just your fallopian tubes are removed rather than your ovaries and fallopian tubes for ovarian cancer prophylaxis. The hypothesis is that ovarian cancer is originating in the fallopian tubes and that removal of just the fallopian tubes prevents ovarian cancer. I was thinking about participating in this trial. I’m only 31 years old so the idea of surgical menopause is really intimidating. Has anybody done the trial or only removed their fallopian tubes for ovarian cancer prophylaxis? I’m curious what people’s thoughts are about this or what other people’s doctors have told them.

Moderate risk BRCA1 mutation

My mom (64f) was diagnosed with stage 4 TNBC a couple months ago and we just found out that we both carry the BRCA1 gene mutation. Genetic testing determined this mutation has a “moderate risk” of cancer, which means I have a 25% chance of breast and ovarian cancer before age 70. I am thinking I will do preventative surgery even with a 25% risk, but I can’t decide when I need to have the surgeries. I’m (31f) more willing to do the double mastectomy than the hysterectomy because I am concerned about going into early menopause. Has anybody experienced something similar? How did you approach preventative surgeries?

Did you like your reconstruction?

I’m curious if anybody actually liked the way their reconstruction looked after their DMX? What kind type of reconstruction did you choose? I’m trying to decide on which reconstruction method to get, or if I should just go flat.
