FlightAware route question + anxiety about storms

FlightAware route question + anxiety about storms

Hi everyone! I’m a nervous flyer and I’ll be flying from Porto (OPO) to Bucharest (OTP) soon.

I was looking at my flight on FlightAware and noticed that the route is quite curved instead of what I imagined would be a more direct path..
I know planes don’t always fly in a straight line, but I’m curious what determines a route like this?

I’m also a bit worried about the summer thunderstorms across Europe, especially after the recent heat wave. Does a route like this ever get adjusted in advance because of forecast storms?

I’d really love to understand how these routes are planned. Thanks!

Landing over the delta and spiraling about bird strikes

I’m looking for some reassurance and maybe some rational perspectives because my anxiety has really latched onto something specific.

I’m flying to Faro, Portugal soon, and I’ve become fixated on the possibility of a bird strike during landing. I know this probably sounds irrational, but anxiety isn’t always rational.
The thing that triggered me is that Faro Airport is located near the Ria Formosa lagoon system, with wetlands, marshes, and bird migration areas nearby. After reading about it, I started thinking: “What if there are lots of birds around the airport? What if a bird gets into an engine during landing?” Then I went down the rabbit hole of reading about bird strikes..

Has anyone here flown into Faro before, or does anyone with aviation knowledge have any solid facts about bird strikes, airport bird control, or why this fear is less dangerous than my brain is making it seem?

Thank you, I really want to go on this trip!!!
