Dress code for hospital admin
Hi everyone,
I just got a job in hospital admin (ER clerk) and I’m honestly confused on what the dress code is.
My employer stated business attire but I feel stupid and embarrassed to ask her to elaborate. My contract says you may be provided a uniform and that’s all but this hasn’t been discussed with me and as far as I can tell it’s for permanent employees.
I understand business attire as a whole but what’s confusing me is that how do I really wear business attire in a hospital setting? I’m not at all high up or respected so it’s not like I am working in a nice office .
I’m assuming black pants and whatever top? I wish I was offered a uniform because I struggle to find professional tops that don’t make me look like a tent or an old lady so if anyone has recommendations lmk, especially for summer.
Shoes? Usually for women that means heels/ballet flats but in this setting wouldn’t it be better for me to wear closed toe shoes like clean sneakers that are comfortable to walk in?
I have worked in medical admin before but it was pretty casual, I could basically wear whatever but had the option of a uniform top (it was a mix between scrubs and a blouse) and I could either wear sneakers or open toed low heels and some variant of black pants.
I also don’t exactly want to be uncomfortable in my outfit given I will be working long hours in a busy area in the early hours of the morning. I thought maybe they would provide a dress code template but I can’t seem to find one anywhere and I would of thought that hospitals have strict rules on what you can wear (like closed toe shoes) I am only admin so I wasn’t expecting scrubs and it would be my nightmare for people to assume I am a nurse or doctor that can save them if they need help but more just something that indicates yes I do work here but I am just admin.
Any help is appreciated! If you guys think I should email back again please let me know, I just don’t want to sound stupid or embarrass myself.
In the interview I was watching what other admin were wearing but it differed a lot and was not in the department I will be working in.
