Strike while the iron is hot.

Two years ago I started collecting "replibasses" of bass guitars I admired as a teen. I started with a Squier 70's Vibe Jazz, "Blond on Blond", natural with a maple neck. Description said "Used-Very Good" When I got it it had all the tags and stickers, wrapped in vellum with manual, warranty card and tools. I paid $300.

Early this year I bought a 70's Vibe Precision, on sale for $349, also brand new.

List price on each at the time was $429. Weeks after I bought the Precision, list went to $479.

I checked last night, list on each is now $529. Deal!

Guest DJ on 60's Gold

I believe Shotgun Tom said that John Anderson will be sitting in again tonight, for the last hour of the show. He is incredibly knowledgeable about 60's music.

60's Gold Guest DJ, John from Arkansas

He sends a detailed Email to Shotgun Tom every Wednesday and has incredible knowledge of 60's music.

And he's straying far from the beaten path.

Oops, that's Arkansas City, KS

Did they tell Peter Noone what to play today?

UGH. Englebert Humperdinck? Andy Williams? Burt Bachrach? They gonna top it off with Walking To Houston by Dean Martin?

Sometimes, bad is bad...

Heard a promo for "60's Rock Wall".

Are they finally getting the message? Oh goody!

But WHERE IS IT?! They didn't give a channel number! They play real 60's ROCK, I'm on board!

My Ibanez GSR200

I bought a cheap Ibanez GSR 200. I liked the color, Pearl White, and the upper "reverse P" pickups, and I like Ibanez basses. $249. I wanted a "practice" bass.

I've been playing for 53 years. My left hand is getting arthritic.

We meet most Sundays to play for ourselves. My cheap Glarry needs a neck adjustment, and I just didn't feel like doing it, so I brought the Ibanez. My fingers ached from arthritis, but it didn't seem to bother me.

Then I looked at the neck. It's a guitar neck, narrow, with close frets.

I had no problem. Real good bass if you have small hands. Or arthritis.

Out of the box it played just fine. I bought it from a camera store. Got lucky. They are made in China or Indonesia. Mine was from Indonesia, made by Samick.

It plays like a dream, like my '69 Dan Armstrong, also with a guitar-like neck. My "pinkies" are short, and make it far easier to play than my Fenders. My Japanese Fender PBass Lyte has a similar fretboard. Played many gigs with that.

You aren't getting a Fender quality bass, but for $249 you get a decent bass that plays well, perfect for practice or gigs you don't want to take an expensive bass. No one will know the difference.

Channel Repetition

Every day I check in here 2-3 times a day.

Every day there's at least one post complaining about repetition. If you review my posts, you'll probably find I'm the #1 complainer, mostly for 60's Gold. I gave up on Lithium about 12 years ago.

I'm a Geezer, an aged hippie, and I like 60's Rock. For a hot minute 60's Gold was playing more diverse music, but now their average is 1963. Ugh.

I asked at least 50 times for a 60's Rock channel, completely ignored. I'm a bass player. My last band, for 20 years, I made a LOT of money playing lesser heard 60's music. We were the #1 band (covers) in 2 states.

60's Gold doesn't get it. I asked 50 times, at least, for a 60's ROCK channel. Totally ignored.

There are THOUSANDS of subscribers here, and lots of complaints about the repetition.

So...time to band together, no matter what genre you like.

Now, I'm only familiar with Android, but in the app, from Discover, in the upper right hand corner there is a "gear" for settings. Click it.

Scroll down to Feedback, then look for Channel. Click that.

Then, tell them you're tired of the repetition, and give specifics.

Maybe, if enough people complain, they'll get the message.

But....I doubt it. They're blockheads that know what we want to listen to better than we do.

Any downvotes will most likely be from SXM employees. If not, explain yourself.

Why, all of a sudden, did 60's Gold start playing the Turtles' songs in 2025?

Look up Flo and Eddie on Wikipedia.

Volmen and Kaylan were founding members of the Turtles, and when the Turtles dissolved, they went out on their own as "The Phlourescent Leech and Eddie", being that due to contractual obligations as the Turtles they could not use their real names in anything to do with the music business.

Fast forward to 2013, when the pair sued SXM for not paying royalties for their songs in a number of states. They won the lawsuit, but in 2018 a Florida judge vacated the ruling. SXM paid over $200M in royalties for songs being played from 1970-1973 (I think), and another ~$100M for other royalty violations.

Must have left a bad taste in SXM's mouth, because I didn't hear any Turtles songs. I didn't start listening to 60's Gold (or 60's on 6) very much at all, even though I've been a subscriber for 20 years.

Until 2025. One of them died, and it must have broken the spell, and all of a sudden 60's Gold started flooding the channel with their songs. Now, this last bit is my conjecture, but it fits the timeline...

60's Gold "Lost 45"

Every time I hear them say, "Here's a lost 45 from the 60's", I brace myself for some Sock Hop song from 1963.

Can't Explain by The Who. I almost fell off my chair...

Maybe they lost it. I didn't.

Peter Noone really went off the wall tonight

I Can Hear The Grass Grow by the Move, Paper Sun by Traffic, Get Me To The World On Time by The Electric Prunes (never did get that name...). and Badge by Cream, which is in rotation.

Some of my 60's favorites.

When is Madison on Lithium?

From AI: Madison is a radio host on SiriusXM's Lithium channel, where she shares her passion for alternative rock music from the '90s and introduces listeners to new artists. Her energetic and quirky on-air persona has made her a beloved figure, known for her unique storytelling and engaging style.

Yeah. Right. Beloved figure. I had to change channels when the kids were in the car because she was always talking about her sexual antics,

So, I want to listen to Lithium to find a song from the 90's I can't remember, but I sure don't want to be subjected to her "wisdom".

Anyone know the schedule?

Blew up by Behringer BX4500 today.

It's about 17 years old. Just stopped cold.

Input section seems to be working. I (hopefully) blew an internal fuse, but it smelled like burning diode, so I may have fried an output transistor or two. All my repair gear is long gone, so it's going to a shop near here, and I hear the guy doesn't gouge

A quick inspection revealed there was an instrument cable instead of a speaker cable. Been like that for 8 years.

Shotgun Tom on vacation? Beach Boys since 7PM 60's Gold.

Playing some decent BB songs, but I can only take so much. Great group, but I've heard it all.

Wow! Pat St John is really going off the walls today! (60's Gold)

Just played Dear Mr Fantasy by Traffic and Mr Big by Free, along with other rarely heard songs from the mid to late 60's. He gets away with a lot more than the other DJs on the channel. Also Bob Marley (not a big reggae fan) and some seldom heard Rolling Stones songs from around 65-67.

Now throw in the Smoke and The Pretty Things, among others.

Dad Rock on Channel 3

Through Father's Day. Aimed mostly at Boomers (which I am), and featuring all the songs I've gotten absolutely sick of hearing for the last 50 years every time I turned on "Classic Rock" radio stations.

For example, I never want to hear Freebird again. I was a HUGE Skynyrd fan in high school and college, but sometimes you can just hear a song too many times.

Sorry if I stepped on anyone's toes. I've played a lot of those songs in various bands for a good part of 50 years and got burned out on them from being overplayed.

/rant...

Sorry, folks. Had the volume too low when I heard the promo. Channel 300!

Spotify Listens,

From my 71 HOUR playlist on Spotify, some songs get played too
much, some not enough at all.

From the web app, I followed prompts to "Suggestions". It wanted
to know my idea. "Up arrow to play more frequently, down arrow for
less".

"That's a unique idea!"

I was then transferred to a submission form.

Too bad I didn't get the same recognition from SXM...

60's Gold. Peter Noone in trouble?

He strayed pretty far from the playlists this evening. Lots of long unheard or never heard Brit music, from a rare Who song, to a children's farce, to the really rarely heard full album version of Oh Well by Fleetwood Mac. He played that one early.

Hope he doesn't get fired...

What happened...

60's Gold. I listen to Peter Noone, then Pat St John on Saturdays.

Maybe you're familiar with my complaints on 60's Gold. Too canned, too programmed, too locked down.

I kept telling them "Play more songs by the same artists!" Nope.

Today I heard the Yardbirds "A certain Girl". A Certain Girl. So I looked up when it was last played. Never. Then a few more.

Too bad they didn't do this before I signed up on Spotify
