Hi everyone, I’m planning on making a payment of $10k on one of my loans at the end of this summer before repayment starts. I have about 90k in debt, 16k in my own name and the rest are ParentPLUS. My most expensive loan with the highest interest is about 7,134 with a 7% interest rate. My highest in PLUS loans is 29k with a 9% interest rate.
My plan is to find a serving job when I finish a work contract at the end of the summer and pay $2500 on my loans until they are paid off. Yes this is feasible because I have a very fortunate and privileged living situation. Should I focus on my parent’s bigger and higher interest loans first, or should I try and wipe out the debt in my name first? Should I be considering consolidation? I know the highest interest rate is usually the first you go for but I’m also not sure if I would fair better in the future without debt in my own name. If it helps I paid off my car this year and have no credit card debt.
