Wire-hair grooming advice
Recently adopted this sweet guy who we presume to be a terrier-mix with wiry hair. I have no experience with wire-hair dogs before and am looking for some advice on how to keep his coat healthy. He has medium length hair on his back (2-3in) but seems to be pretty thin to me and no noticeable under coat. His belly has very sparsely growing thin hairs. He’s about 1 so maybe it just still needs to fill in?
From the reading I have done so far, looks like I need to be using a pin brush and then a metal comb weekly? Is a slicker brush after necessary if he doesn’t seem to have an undercoat? And any specific shampoo or bathing interval you would recommend? I love his scruffy hair and don’t want to mess it up but have no idea what I’m doing! Thank you!
