Was out driving around and the clouds decided to pay homage to my faves
Hello all,
(28 f) I have been considering for a few months now applying to my local 702 for an inside wireman apprenticeship. I currently work an 8-5 office job in the financial industry making $20.23 and it's honestly soul sucking work with little reward. I've been with this company for 6 years now but really feel like the apprenticeship would bring meaningful change to my life and finances as I am a single household and pay my mortgage/bills on my own.
I quit smoking weed about a month and a half ago in anticipation of applying. I know that it can take a significant amount of time for each step to happen so I am a little cautious of applying at the moment until I am testing negative but don't want to increase my wait time. I do not feel like a particularly strong candidate - I have zero experience with electric work (other than installing ceiling fans which is nothing) and I struggle with math. I've been working through the Ultimate Electrician and taking a ton of notes. I did a mock aptitude test and got all of the reading comprehension questions correct (I have a BA in English) and missed many math questions on my first go-around but after studying for a day and coming back I'd doubled my correct answers.
Other than studying math and starting a workout routine to build stamina and arm strength what can I be doing to stand out? Is this a good move for me to make? What have you guys been doing to prepare and does anyone know when I should submit my application? I probably have about 2 months more or less until I test negative so I have time to truly put in a lot of prep. Anything I should be putting aside or prepping for in addition?
Any advice/discussion is welcome!
