Thinking about moving from Québec to Nanaimo - Looking for advice (Safety, Pets, lifestyle, feelings)

Hi everyone!
I’m from Sherbrooke, Québec. Woman, 32 years old.
I’m seriously considering moving to Nanaimo and I’d love to hear from locals or anyone who made a similar move.

Here's a little bit about me and why I’m looking to relocate to better understand what I am looking for and finding out if Nanaimo is the right choice:

Lately I’ve been feeling stuck where I live. The environment here doesn’t match who I’m becoming, and I’m craving a calmer, softer lifestyle. I’m looking for a place that feels peaceful, close to nature, and emotionally lighter. I love tropical environments — warm air, ocean views, palm trees — but I want to stay in Canada.
Nanaimo keeps appearing in my research as one of the few Canadian cities that offers a bit of that coastal, gentle, almost tropical resemblance while still being safe and accessible (That's what Google says. Waiting on your feedback :) )

Facts about me:
- I am French-Speaking (But can communicate very well in English). I am exploring jobs in Nanaimo, but not sure if any company would hire a French native speaker. (Administration, accounting field).

- I have 2 dogs and a cat, so pet safety and good daycare (if I have to go away a few days) options are very important to me.

- I'm looking for a safe neighbourhood where I can walk my dogs and feel comfortable living alone.

- I'm hoping to build a peaceful life near the ocean.

I'd love advice on :

- Which neighbourhood are safest and calmest (Cost of living too)

- How welcoming Nanaimo is for French speakers

- Good veterinary clinics and pets Daycare

- Job opportunities

- What the lifestyle feels like day-to-day

- Anything you wish you knew before moving there.

Thank you so much for any insight. Really appreciate it! :)

Edit :
Yes, I will absolutely visit before making any decision.
Yes, I will find a job before moving.
