Water consumption

Trip to Peru planned for December 2026. In reading it has come to my attention that the only acceptable drinking water is bottled. I have some questions.

  1. Will my Katahdin water filtration bag with drops help or just buy bottled water?

  2. Staying in Lima, Cusco, Sacred Valley. Assume there are plenty of reputable places to buy drinkable water. Is this correct?

  3. Are there rules regarding buying water from street vendors? I know some countries have people that "recycle" the water bottles and glue the caps back on to make it seem like a new bottle.

  4. What are the rules regarding ice? Just dont use it?

Thank you all for your answers and your knowledge.

Moisture Barrier

Okay gurus, I cant find a definitive answer on the internet so here I am.

The "attic" in the mobile home I'm redoing is just deep enough for insulation. The original insulation from 50 yrs ago was unfaced and had a thin plastic membrane between it and the ceiling tiles.

I am replacing it with faced (kraft paper) insulation. Do I need to replace that plastic membrane or will the paper take the place of that?

I am in Central Florida.

Thank you in advance for any and all advice and knowledge sharing.

Hiking poles

My Leki poles are speed lock tops and twist lock bottoms. After my last backpacking journey, one pole wont collapse. The twist lock does, but the speed lock only collapses about halfway. I have searched the internet but cant find a fix. Taken apart and cant find an issue.

Any suggestions from the Reddit community? Thanks all.
