As a diabetic who is also on a diet, I'm currently strictly counting calories. Whilst I can jiggle my numbers for the day and have a cocktail in the evening, I'm looking for ways to reduce calories.
Does anyone have any experience with sugar-free simple syrup alternatives? Either commercially available or making them yourself?
Have been reading about making simple from either erythritol or xylitol (both of which I have used in low cal baking), but it sounds like recrystallization can be an issue, and that xanthan may need to be added for mouth feel.
Any feedback would be appreciated from folk who tried this (or other methods) before I just jump in and start experimenting.
FWIW, I would initially be thinking about making old fashioneds, sours and so.
Thanks in advance
Is Laviscus useful outside of GR? I just unlocked him, but I've only been playing a couple of months. I don't have the other characters needed for his GR team, and I just get hammered by most GR boss anyway at the moment.
Is he worth leveling for other modes? Or should I just wait until later on the game when I'm higher level and have the right characters to make a good team?
Very happy to have seen the post from u/robborow last week about GC alts. Had not been aware that Strega now have a Verde variant. Ordered a bottle and just made my first Last Word with it.
(Equal parts Strega, maraschino, Tanqueray and lime, shaken, Luxardo cherry garnish)
I will confess, I have never had access to actual GC. Have been making mine for the last year with Luxardo Del Santo. Don't get me wrong, I love Del Santo and the Last Words I have made with it.
But this one (apologies for the not great pic) is on another level. It has an extra something that the previous ones did not. Perhaps it's strength - the Strega Verde is the same abv as GC.
Perhaps a driver to finally get some navy strength gin to proof up a Del Santo Last Word. That will be an interesting comparison (and I have some Izarra to make a three way comp).
Or maybe it's just closer to GC. I get the comments from Robborow that the Strega has a dankness not present in Del Santo. Overall just happy that I keep getting ideas and inspiration from this community.
Wishing all a great weekend! Enjoy Eurovision if that's your thing (it's in my background behind the cocktail 😜)
Had anyone tried Freixenet Solare? Can't find much as it's apparently only recently released. Aimed at the spritz market ready for summer! I love the art deco style bottle.
Primarily the taste is lemon and rosemary. Neat it's a little overpowering. I definitely got furniture polish vibes! Pictured is the recipe off the bottle:
Solare Spritz
3 parts Freixenet Sparkling (I just used a generic sparkling white)
2 parts Freixenet Solare
1 part sparkling water
Add all to a glass with ice
Should have a lemon garnish - I have none in!
Taste is much better than neat. Still strongly lemon, the rosemary is toned down. Very drinkable. I think I still prefer an Aperol spritz, but this is a close second.
Now wondering what else I can try this in. I think it will go nicely with gin. With its stength of flavour, will need balancing. But excited to have a play around. Any suggestions for lemony cocktails this might work in?
