Working w/ Hygiene

After an exam, patient are told prophy every 6 months or srps and the perio maintenance 3-4 mrc. If the hygienist tells patient they can do yearly hygiene appointments instead of reinforcing recommended intervals, doesn’t diminish their value as a profession and the work that the Dentist puts in going over OH and importance of gingival health?
