Is this actually FatFIRE, or are we not there yet

Not here to flex - genuinely trying to figure out if we qualify or if we are fooling ourselves and need a few more years of grinding. Please tell us straight if the numbers don't add up.

  • Currently in US - 35M, 35F. No kids, not planning any
  • Net worth: ~$1.75M
    • Brokerage (liquid): $1.3M
    • 401k: $450k (not touching this until 60)
  • Own our 3BHK apartment in a Tier-2 city in India, close to parents.
  • Parents are financially independent
  • Estimated expenses: 2 lacs monthly living + 12 lacks annual travel expense - so around 36 lacs annual expenses
  • Planning to reset cost basis on the brokerage during the RNOR window after moving back, so ideally no capital gains tax drag on that portion.

Also genuinely curious if anyone here has gone through the RNOR cost-basis-reset process for a US brokerage - how clean was it in practice, and is there a tax gotcha we are not seeing?

Does this clear the bar, or are we not close and need to keep working? We are not attached to a label, just don't want to fool ourselves into pulling the trigger too early?
