How to take short, condensed, summarized notes?

Hello first post here!

This is an issue I've been struggling for quite a while now. Everytime I want to write down notes on a book or video or whatnot, I end up taking seriously long notes. Like, this is precisely how I take notes with my readings in uni 😄.

The thing is I have no idea how to shorten my notes at all. I don't just want to write a general summary bc that feels like I'm skipping out on so many interesting facts. But the length of how I write things makes me intimidated and lazy to even take or continue notetaking.

How do you guys do it? How do you guys take concise notes on information heavy books or other media? Let me know your tips pls !

Photos above are all notes of one book, which took 5 pages. It's divided by chapter, sub-chapters, then the main text is bullet form

Ok medyo weird question but hear me out huhu 😭

I, for better or for worse (for worse yan beh), relapsed to one of my old fandoms and started reading fanfiction on ao3 again 💔

The thing is the fic is incredibly well written, and I feel the same feelings as I would when reading an actual book. I shamefully admit that I spent 4 hours on ao3 yesterday and today fully immersed how this angsty story will go...

Ignoring the whirlpool of a site ao3 is, do you consider amateur works such as fanfiction in your reading progress? Do you count it towards your reading goals?

I, for one, fully consider fanfiction (and other pieces of writing really) as literature and I read it with the same importance as actual books. But not really sure if I should consider it part of my reading tracker.

I mean...is 4 hours on ao3 a bad thing or...

HAHAHHAA let me know your thoughts let this be a fun discussion 😁
