Would like a well rounded laptop, $500 - $800

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

Country

United States

Budget

$500 - $800

Are you open to refurbs/used options?

Yes

Screen size

Preferably 11” to 13” but I don’t really care all that much

Weight limit

Any.

Purpose

General purpose and schoolwork. Id like to be able to program and use blender comfortably.

Form factor

It would be nice to have pen support, but thats not a very big deal. Standard clamshell form factor is just fine.

Intended usage

Id like to get into programming and blender, and frequently use some cad software like Onshape. Frequently browse the web and stream videos and movies. Intend to run linux, so official or community support for Linux is very appreciated, and kind of important. I would also like to see if i can get a local AI working, but thats just an idea and does not matter very much, if at all. I plan to do some very light indie gaming, and maybe trying gamedev myself, but thats probably only 2d games, maybe very light Minecraft.

Desired battery life

I don’t know what is standard, so maybe 10+ hours? Is that outside my budget?

Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

Performance, battery life, size, weight.

Info/Requirements

Preferably HDR and OLED, but a higher end screen that isn’t OLED is probably fine (just not some really gray screen.) Community Linux support as mentioned above (so preferably AMD), 90+hz refresh rate and 1080+p, but I’m willing to compromise. Extensive I/O would be nice, but it seems hard to come by (at least Thunderbolt/usbc4, and video output)

If it means anything, I want a laptop because Ive started trying to run non-game programs on my Steam Deck, but its hard to do with a controller, and carrying a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard is too much.
