So I’ve got a set of Gen 1 Elitewheels Drive 50D. They’re great. But I’m seeing the new Drive SL and wanting to upgrade.

Points for:

1. The Gen 1 Drives top out at 38C clearance. I’d love to be able to run 40C slicks on my gravel frame.
2. The finish is matte. I don’t know how much I love the raw carbon finish on the Gen 1s. I just think a matte grey-black finish would look a bit better on my bike.

Non factors:

1. Nicer ratchets. I doubt I would benefit from the difference in power transfer.
2. Weight. I would benefit more from losing a pound or two. I’ve got a bit of belly fat to spare.
3. Aero. I’m not interested in gaining 5 seconds over an hour at 50km/h.

Anyone care to explain to me why this is such a bad idea? Please do before my wife does.
