Title: First custom whip build (4ft, 8-plait, 4 layers w/ shot core) – How’d I do?

Hey everyone, Just wrapped up my latest whip build and wanted to get some feedback from the community on how the construction and overall aesthetics turned out! Here are the specs on the build: * Length: 4 feet (compact, fast target style) * Plait: 8-plait outer overlay (white paracord) * Construction: 4 layers total (shot-loaded core, two braided bellies beneath the overlay) * Handle: High-visibility red handle wrap with yellow accent bands I was going for something agile and responsive for quick directional changes and fast target cracking, while giving it a bright, retro high-vis look. Check out the pictures attached to see the braid, handle detail, and scale. How’s the taper looking to you guys? Any critiques, tips for the next build, or suggestions on tweaking the belly transitions? Appreciate any feedback from fellow whipmakers!

First attempt at micro French hitching (8 strands, 73 rounds). How did I do?

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share my first real shot at doing some tight micro-hitching. I went with an 8-strand chevron pattern using some thin micro-cord over a paracord core.

I ended up counting 73 full rounds (which makes it about 584 individual half-hitch knots altogether).

For the clasp, I decided to go with a clean, adjustable sliding square knot (cobra clutch) to keep it minimal and make it easy to take on and off.

A couple of details:

Pattern: Chevron / Arrow (alternating side-to-side)

Strands: 8-strand wrap

Clasp: Adjustable sliding knot with melted/fused ends and simple overhand stopper knots on the tails.

I tried really hard to keep my tension identical from start to finish so the edges stayed flat and didn't twist up on me.

How did I do on the tension and overall look? Any tips for keeping micro-work this neat, or ideas for what to try next?

Appreciate any feedback!

Thinking about turning my custom paracord braiding into a side hustle. Would anyone actually buy these?

Hey everyone, I’ve been spending a lot of time on my workbench lately experimenting with different custom paracord braids, tapers, and wraps. I’m trying to figure out if there is a real market out there for this kind of handmade gear or if I should just keep it as a personal hobby. Here are two of the main projects I've been working on (pics attached): 1.Custom Charging Cables, I've been experimenting with different sectioned braids and spiral hitches on fast-charging cords. They completely reinforce the wire so it won't fray at the stress points, they don't tangle up, and you can customize the colors. 2.Handmade Whips: I build these from scratch. For my test runs, I’ve been making custom-weighted internal cores (using a thin chain run inside gutted utility cord) so the fluid motion is right, and then doing a true progressive dropping taper (like a 9-strand plait tapering down to 5 and 3 strands) so it cracks cleanly. I enjoy the bench time and keeping the knot tension consistent over long runs, but before I go buying bulk inventory or setting up an online store, I wanted some honest feedback. -Do you think people would actually buy these online (like Etsy, eBay, or specialized forums)? -What would be a fair price point to make it worth the hours spent braiding? Any advice on which market to target first? Appreciate any thoughts or advice you guys have!
