First quilt!

Hand pieced, hand quilted, and hand bound my first quilt :)

I made it to bring awareness to a couple of voter initiatives in WA on the ballot for November (I-001 and I-638).

It’s the second quilt I’ve started, but the first finished since it’s pretty small. It was my first dabble into appliqué as well, and I learned a lot in the process! There are plenty of mistakes I made on the way during the appliquéing, but I left them on the quilt so I can better gage my progression over time as I get more used to the craft.

In the quilting in the top right corner, I used the stitches to spell out “Protect Trans Kids”, which each row having the letters’ body width expand to fill the white space. Everywhere else I used butterfly shapes for the quilting stitches. I saw somewhere in a past post that someone used masking tape they cut into shape as a guide for when they hand quilt nontypical shapes and didn’t want to mark on the fabric itself, which I found to be incredibly useful! Thanks in retrospect to whoever you are that suggested it on this subreddit :)
