Kids Don't Like Movie Day Anymore.

I'm showing a movie this week. I gave the class a "trailer" last week and they seemed into it. I hit play today and about 1/3 of them checked out.

I'm at a total loss. When did kids stop liking movie day??

Aging Out of the Profession?

I think I'm reaching the point where I'm aging out of teaching. Connecting with students (high school sophomores through seniors) seems really difficult now, where earlier in my career it felt almost effortless. Just feeling like the things they want to talk about are so stupid and their attention span evaporates when I bring up more substantial topics.

Anyone else feeling this way?

A Significant Moment

I teach public speaking. I had a student who did a very average job, and earned a C, leave my classroom cursing like a sailor and clearly upset. He came in this morning still very upset. I took him into the hallway and told him I'd give him another crack at it if he'd come in during my lunch.

He did. And he hit this one out of the ballpark.

When we talked, I was able to address the earlier behavior and explain that a temper communicates all the wrong things. He apologized. Did you get that? He APOLOGIZED to me and it was a significant moment.

I hope he remembers this forever.
