At my wits end
SOLVED. See the updates
For context I have built many iPods and have had no issues like I am facing today.
I have an iPod Classic 6th Gen that I have replaced the HDD, shell and battery for and no matter what I do, I cannot get it to restore. I get the 1439 error on Windows and a similar error on my Mac;
What I am using;
Aliexpress dual MicroSD board
128gb Patriot Micro SD Card.
What I have done to troubleshoot;
- Changed the ZIF cable (three times)
- Changed the MicroSD board
- Changed the USB cable (three times) I have even made sure im plugging into the back of the computer.
- Installing from the Plug into iTunes screen
- Installing from Disk mode.
- Changing the MicroSD Card to a Samsung Evo
No matter what I have done, all I get is a brief screen where it looks like the install is starting and then it just stops and gives the error.
This is a gift and I really need it ready asap. Any ideas what else to try? Or is it the board?
Update 1:
It restores with a HDD in it. I have updated the firmware as it was on really old Classic firmware. Im going to try one more time
Update 2: I think I killed it. Whilst the update was successful, I tried to install rockbox to flash better firmware and the battery gave out while moving to DFU mode. It goes straight to “Ok to Disconnect” as soon as its plugged in now.
Update 3: SOLVED
It turned out to be a combination of the firmware and the cable. The iPod was on firmware 1.0.2 which was NOT compatible with the MicroSD boards. The cable was also faulty. Using my USB-C to 30-pin allowed me to update the iPod using its original HDD , I then flashed the 2.0.4 firmware to it and the boards worked straight away
