Reposted - screenprinted invites done!!

Reposted because images can’t be removed from existing posts - thanks for letting me know!!!!!

So glad to have these ready to mail!! I don’t have enough real life people to share them with because we are trying to let people be surprised when they arrive, haha.

They were 100% designed and screen printed by us. So much work, but now each is like a tiny work of art. The colours are so rich and tactile, they literally sit on top of the paper. They closely reflect the Bauhaus architectural style of our venue - even the font is the same.

Editing note: I used AI to remove the address on the envelope, the names on the belly band, and to fully changed the personal information in the suite. AI did a good job of maintaining the general formatting, but let me assure you the original was perfect - I agonized over individual word and letter spacing.

Framing/ drywall costs for minor remodel?

We are in Toronto, contemplating a layout change to our 1950’s home that would require reframing, a new interior door, and drywall repair. We are very experienced DIY-ers with a full kitchen and bathroom under our belt, but I hate hate hate drywall and still don’t own all the “nice to have” tools to do a great job.

Thoughts on the ballpark on what it would cost to hire someone to go from the first layout to the second layout? Pardon it not being perfectly to scale. Trying to figure out whether it is worth it to DIY or get local quotes and hire it out.

There is no water, electrical, or HVAC in the area. The wall is currently the thick/heavy plasterboard. Not looking to include an estimate for the required floor repair - we would handle that separately.

As far as whether any of this is load bearing, the joists run front to back on the diagram, and the right hand wall pictured is concrete block up from the basement, with an unfinished garage on the other side. We are pretty confident the closets can be removed without much issue, but also don’t have the walls open….

Real Q: why style makeup for the photos when we have AI?

After a lacklustre makeup trial, I’ve been thinking a lot of what I want out of wedding makeup and what I would consider to be a “success.” I felt my makeup made me look like I was cosplaying an evil twin of myself, covered my own natural spark, etc. Partly I know it was just a bad trial (for me), but also I think I’m just questioning the underlying premise for “wedding style” makeup.

With the advent of extremely quick and easy AI filters to “enhance” makeup, make faces pop, etc, why would I tailor the makeup application to the photo versus people seeing it in person?

I want to look good to my guests, who will generally be quite close to me. I want to look good when I look in a mirror! I want to look good to my future spouse, who is inches from my face!! If this “doesn’t photograph as well” (which is still something I’m willing to debate, but point taken), couldn’t I just ask for the photos to be edited to enhance the makeup to reflect what it looked like IRL?

Help with simple-ish and silly project

(Reposted due to failure to acknowledge rules - apologies.)

As this post will make abundantly clear, I do not have any meaningful coding or microcontroller experience. I am trying to accomplish a very specific project:

1- Push large red arcade button

2- Overhead switched light turns off. Disco ball connected to smart outlet turns on. Second disco light in separate room connected to smart outlet turns on. MP3 player connected to DC power turns on and auto plays. - all for 30 seconds.

3- Overhead light returns to previous state (whether off or on) and button system resets and is ready to activate.

For those wondering- a disco light (AC power) and mp3 player board (DC power) will be attached to one of the triggered plugs, and a rotating red light (AC power) is attached to the other. Everything is in one room except the red rotating light. The overall functionality is: walk into a washroom with lights on, hit the button to have a disco dance party in the dark, meanwhile a light is going off in a different room to let everyone know about your disco dance off.

Limitations: This is being installed in a friend’s place. I don’t want a solution that requires Home Assistant/something similar. Ideally everything could communicate directly with each other once connected to their wifi. I’d also like to keep the build physically compact. From a previous iteration, I have a pretty big project box for the button/mp3 player and speakers. There’s a good amount of room in it.

I’m not confident with difficult soldering, so options that avoid that are preferred.

Progress to date:
- Tasmota installed on ESP32
- connected and configured red push button which is sending “on” then “off” signals to ESP as expected. (High/low)
- mp3 player starts and plays music immediately on receiving power
- purchased pre-flashed Tasmota plug
- played around with Berry script unsuccessfully

Musings
- Would the sonoff smart relay work for the light switch? How difficult is it to flash them to Tasmota?
- I’ve got a big mix of AC and DC power needs - button and ESP32 need constant DC, mp3 needs switched DC, overhead light is AC. Is there a way to simplify this??

Requested help

I’m fundamentally confused about how I take the on/off change of state in the ESP32 and have it do anything in the real world. Do I create a rule and turn it on? How do I address it to the specific devices? What I need to accomplish feels so easy but also so hard. Any pointers/pushes in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

And for fun: here is a previous iteration that relied on breaking power to delayed restart module I found on AliExpress. It didn’t control the overhead light or a second light.
