Should I apply for more jobs?

Hi GP colleagues. I am due to CCT in august. I have applied for CCT and just waiting for the whole process to get sorted. In the meantime, I had been looking for jobs and researching local practices to see what suits me.

I found one that is a bit far from where I live but overall everything seems okay.

I met the practice partner and we had an informal discussion. But by the end of it, he offered me the job and I accepted.

Now the thing is that this whole discussion has been verbal or just on whatsapp. We haven't communicated in writing and he hasn't said anything further.

I did message him on whatsapp to ask him about the next steps but he simply said "I'll let you know".

I am feeling a bit apprehensive and worried that what if he goes back on his word and I am left with no job. It doesn't feel right to keep nagging him about it...but I don't know if it is okay to look for more jobs either.

What do you all think?

Gift for ES

Hello. I am about to CCT soon. Awaiting ARCP.

Finished final ESR.

I am waiting for my panel outcome before I present my ES with a gift and card.

He has been my ES for my extension post so I know him for a year and he has been amazing in terms of teaching, support and mentorship.

He is an Indian Muslim guy around 50 ish. So I need ideas of what to give him.

I was thinking about giving a perfume but not sure if it would be appropriate.

I am a girl btw ...so just want to make sure it doesn't come across as inappropriate or overly friendly.

There might also be a chance I continue in the same practice for some time post CCT so it might not be a final good bye.

However I want this gift to just be a thank you for his supervision and training.

Also I want to know if relationships with ES change if you work in the same practice post CCT. I feel that now my relationship has become a lot more casual compared to professional. First it was more of a teacher student thing. Now it is more of friendly vibe. There's a lot more banter and jokes etc. Not going to say I don't enjoy being treated as an equal but I am still just getting used to it.

Asking my supervisor for a job.

Hello people. I need some advice. I have done both exams and my final ESR is on the coming monday for the summer ARCP panel. I CCT in August. I want to talk about job opportunities.

My current ES is one of the practice partners. And I am obviously aware that my current practice needs more salaried doctors. We only have one for now and two trainees. On any given day, there are not more than 2-3 docs available. It's not a very large surgery, just under 5k patients. But it can get quite busy and on most days, we are quite over worked.

Pros of staying with the same place after CCT: closer to home and I can manage school runs easily. I know all the pts, they know me. And get along with the staff really well.

Cons: there are practices that are a bit far but seem to provide a good pay package, longer appt slots and generally less work (I am not sure about all this...But I have heard from a few friends who say their practices are looking for Gps. They are a bit far though so I'll have to rush everyday).

I was wondering whether I should consider asking ES during my ESR on Monday if he is interested in offering me a job and if yes, then what would the pay look like. And I wonder if he offers me less pay compared to other places and I say no...would that strain our professional relationship? I still have a couple of months in my practice.

I have a feeling if he does offer me a job...he won't offer me more than 10k per session. While there are places which are offering 10.5 (like the ones i mentioned above) but they're far and completely new. New place, new people. I haven't applied in those places yet. But this is what I have heard.

Career opportunities post CCT - Occupational Medicine

Hello everyone. I would like an opinion from all you amazing GP's here.

I am about to CCT in August. I have been in training since the last 6 years and it took a lot to finally reach this point. I had 2 mat leaves in training and passed AKT on my 3rd attempt while on my 2nd extension.

I am 34 at the moment. Now the thing is that I am a bit concerned about what my future will look like considering the fact that I am the main breadwinner. My husband works in a care company and cannot contribute much financially. He is, however, a very supportive husband and father. And he does a phenomenal job looking after me and my kids.

That doesn't change the fact that we will still be quite dependent on my income for a good period of time. I have thought a lot about what to do and so far, I am quite attracted to the idea of having another CCT in a different field. I had a look at different specialities and Occupational Medicine looks to be interesting, relevant to GP, short training duration and in demand abroad (Middle East etc).

I know I can do locums and additional courses etc. But CCT sounds more appealing for some reason.

Does anyone have any experience and would love to hear your opinions on the matter.
