Passed Introduction to Cryptography - D830 — Quick Tips

Just passed D830 and wanted to share some quick tips since Reddit has helped me a lot with WGU classes.

Objective Assessment (OA):

  • I honestly didn't really use ZyBooks. I mainly used the study guide in the WGU Connect Resources folder. It's about 24 pages.
  • I studied that study guide and used ChatGPT to help break down some of the substitution and transposition ciphers I didn't fully understand.
  • Definitely review the questions you got wrong on the Pre-Assessment (PA).
  • I felt like the PA and OA were pretty similar.

Task 1:

  • Task 1 is related to two labs: symmetric and asymmetric.
  • There are practice labs that walk you through how to do them. I recommend doing the practice labs first or side-by-side with the actual labs.
  • Follow the prompt exactly and make sure you take the required screenshots (Rubric asks for screen shot of end of each step).

Task 2:

  • Just follow the prompt and answer exactly what it's asking.
  • You don't need to sound super smart or add a bunch of extra fluff. Keep your answers simple and directly answer the question.

Hopefully this helps someone working through D830. Good luck!

Passed D832 Managing Information Security

Passed D832 Managing Information Security and wanted to share what worked for me.

The course consists of 3 performance assessments based on the same case study and then a final task that is essentially a job simulation.

My biggest tip for the first 3 tasks is: follow the rubric exactly. Don't overthink it and don't make your responses longer than they need to be. If the rubric asks for two items, give two items and make sure you clearly answer every part of the question.

Also, use the templates that are available for the first 3 tasks. They make it much easier to organize your responses and ensure you don't miss anything.

For Task 1, when discussing laws and regulations, I didn't use the course material. I used the PowerPoint resources available in WGU Connect and found that to be more than enough.

The final task was very straightforward. It's a job simulation where you're asked to write a phishing email. I found it to be the easiest part of the course.

Overall, I spent more time matching my answers to the rubric than studying course content. If you can identify exactly what the evaluator is asking for and answer it directly, you'll be in good shape.

Hope this helps anyone currently working through D832!

Passed C845 – Information Systems Security

Just finished C845 and wanted to share a few tips since.

This class only has 3 PAs/tasks. Honestly, the biggest thing is to follow the rubric exactly. Don’t overthink it and don’t try to sound overly smart or add fluff. Just answer what the rubric is asking for directly.

There’s also no strict page requirement from what I saw, so shorter and clear is better than trying to force extra content.

The recorded cohorts for each task helped a lot. I’d definitely recommend watching them before starting the papers because they explain what the evaluators are looking for.

I also used Grammarly to catch grammar mistakes and clean things up before submitting.

For difficulty, I’d give the papers about a 6/10. Not super hard, just time consuming if you overthink the writing.

I Finished within 4 weeks, I work 40+ hrs a week as well, so I know alot of you will be more than fine in this course

I haven’t taken the certification exam yet, but they did provide the voucher after completing the class.

Hopefully this helps someone starting C845.

Just wanted to put in my 2 cents in on this class. Just incase it could help someone else out.

What I mainly did was study the comprehensive study guide the professor sent. After studying sections (there is 4 tota) I would go through the course material lessons and answer the questions in the modules & quizzes.

All the sections have great questions and quizzes to practice from. Then I did the two practice test the modules had. I then took the Pre-assessment. Then studied all the wrongs I got wrong, and know why I got them wrong.
