I made some badger pemmican last week, and now I'm making some out of beef jerky I made. I let the thin slices of beef dry in the New Mexico sun. I think this is the most awesome food for when in the woods bushcrafting. Have ever made jerky or pemmican?
I've had this Trail Boss for five years now, and I gotta say, it's one fine axe. I heat our off-grid home with wood and have taken this axe with me every time I head into the mountains to harvest fuel wood. It feels good in my hand and is easy to keep sharp while in the field. I don't use it (or any other axe) for splitting, but for de-limbing and chopping tasks. What are your thoughts on the Trail Boss?
I'm heading up into the mountains tomorrow for a bear scout. Bow season opens September 1. I trapped two badgers this week and sun-dried the meat into jerky. I added some elk tallow, salt, and honey to make this pemmican for my scout.
I'm starting to scout for bears for the September bear bow season in the Manzano Mountains. I shoot my 1972 recurve every day so I stay sharp.

While it is only June, it's time to start cutting firewood. The Manzano Mountains are now open! We can get 10 cords of wood for 20 bucks! I have a big pile of chains that I need to sharpen. Do you heat your home with wood? If so, do you cut your own or do you purchase your wood?

What a blessing! We don't have running water at our off-grid homestead, so this incredible wash basin will certainly be put to use. I scored it at a thrift store in Belén for 100 bucks!
My wife and I have been tending to this Fox den. There were 8 or 9 pups/kits, but now Mom is gone, and there is only one kit left. We bring them water and eggs.
