Looking for recommendations on areas to buy a house in Ottawa
Hellllllo, My wife and I recently got married and we’re currently renting in Ottawa. We’re starting to think about buying our first home and would love to get some recommendations on areas/neighbourhoods to look at.
The plan would be to live in the property ourselves for now, but there’s a decent chance we may leave Ottawa within the next 2 years. If that happens, we’d most likely want to keep the property and rent it out rather than sell.
Because of that, I’m particularly interested in areas that are good to live in but also have solid rental demand and would make sense as a longer term property to hold.
Would love to hear your thoughts on:
- Neighbourhoods you’d recommend (or avoid)
- Areas with good rental demand
- Whether a townhouse, condo, semi, etc. might make the most sense
- Anything you wish you knew before buying in Ottawa
- Whether buying even makes sense with a potentially short 2-year timeline before renting it out
