Drop a line from the movie that is stuck in your head

The way I experience movies much like a lot of other things is to be reminded of them at random moments of the day. Has been the same with this film. The lines come at random moments and can vary from one day into another.

For instance, recently after a stressful work meeting, the line popped into my head: “My pity is what put us on this damn island.” - a similar sense of exasperation about completely different situations.

What lines have been playing in your head?

Beyond good or bad: interesting takes on Nolan’s The Odyssey

Here is a playlist I’m curating of takes on The Odyssey that go beyond simply stating whether they liked or disliked the movie or whether they think it is good or bad.

Taken together the videos look at the film from a range of angles such as politics, history, classical studies, literature, mythology and film analysis.

One reason I wanted to share it is that it contains quite a few examples of classicists and people deeply familiar with Homer genuinely enjoying the film while also engaging seriously and critically with what Nolan has done with the material. I think this complicates the common impression that people who know The Odyssey well have generally disliked the adaptation.

P.S. I might do a similar thing with written articles.

Youtube bashers

My YouTube algorithm has reached the stage where it’s serving me one video after another with titles dismissing The Odyssey despite me not clicking on any of them (I have pretty specific criteria for what I actually watch).
I genuinely don’t understand this clickbait trend of getting views off a popular work while simultaneously bashing it. The video exists because The Odyssey exists, its audience exists because The Odyssey has an audience and ultimately the creator is making money from talking about the very thing they’re dismissing.
And yet the titles are always something like “Why The Odyssey is bad at this” or “Why The Odyssey fails at that” as though these people are themselves in the business of creating masterpieces.

Anyone in need of nerding out about the Odyssey film?

Having watched the movie multiple times and having read/listened to/watched a lot of extra content on various aspects of the film, I find that not many (even those who have seen the movie) share the enthusiasm to talk about it in depth. Anyone similarly in need of nerding out about it?

I’ve gone down some pretty ridiculous rabbit holes at this point like learning about how Nolan plays around with Homeric narrative techniques including the way certain details or moments are deliberately repeated and only really reveal their significance later. And now I keep noticing these little things on rewatches that I completely missed the first time.
