I built an iOS app for Japanese learners who can read English fine but freeze up when they speak — want honest feedback
Disclosure first: I'm one of the devs, so I'm biased. I'm here for criticism, not
downloads.
The problem we built around: people study English for years, read it fine, then
freeze the second they have to speak. Not a knowledge gap, a reps gap. So we made
the shortest path from "I want to talk" to actually talking.
- Tap once, pick a few cards, matched with a real live teacher in seconds. No
browsing profiles, no scheduling.
- Every session is free talk. No curriculum, no textbook — that's deliberate.
- Live captions while you talk, so missing a word doesn't derail you.
- An AI partner to warm up with before talking to a human.
- AI feedback after a session, plus a tab that recaps your past talks.
- Follow teachers you liked and talk to them again.
Limits, upfront: iOS only, subscription with a free trial, Japanese UI (so it's
aimed at Japanese speakers), and it's still new and rough in places.
Happy to take the harsh stuff in the comments. 🙇
