Update on "AI Strategy for dividend only withdrawals"

Hi there,

Can you provide an update on the planned "AI Strategy for dividend only withdrawals".

At the beginning of the year I posted about a problem I was having where the my non-reg portfolio turnover was set to Zero, but the system was forcing thousands of dollars of "taxable capital gains" in my non-reg account every single year. In my case, this was multiple thousands of dollars of taxable capital gains. This was just "wrong" and it cascaded to calculating the wrong amounts for things like RIF/LIF withdrawals, taxes, etc, year after year in my plan.

At the time, you indicated that this was due to the fact that the platform calculates the withdrawal at the beginning of the year, before investment growth and dividends are calculated,.... thereby forcing the system to sell stocks and create a capital gain to provide the cash for the beginning of year dividend withdrawal. This implementation renders it impossible to implement a dividend only strategy.

At the time, you indicated that it should be fixed when the new "AI Strategy for dividend only withdrawals" came out and that the feature request was near the top of the list.

Is this feature in the next update? If not, can you estimate when it'll be delivered?

If this feature is not in the near future, would you consider quickly implementing some other workaround that would not force these incorrect taxable capital gains?

Thanks for everything you do.

ps. I understand that you have a long list of feature requests.... but at present this is causing a cascade of incorrect calculations in my plan

Question re Survivor Scenario with LIF unlocking

Hi there,

It's my understanding that if a spouse with a locked in account (LIRA or LIF following Ontario regulations) passes away, then the account passes to the surviving spouse and the account is no longer "locked" for the survivor.

I've setup survivor scenarios in Adviice, and the LIF automatically transfers to the surviving spouse but it remains as a LIF (with max withdrawal rules).

Is it possible to model complete unlocking in a survivor scenario? If so, what steps do I need to implement.

Thanks

Question related to GIS and CPP

Hi there,

I'm exploring a GIS option which includes delaying CPP to 70. I understand that the income from CPP will reduce the GIS benefit.

My thoughts and questions are:

  • CPP:
    • while there is no increase in CPP after 70, is it true that that CPP will only start after I request it?
    • I believe that when I request CPP that I can retroactively request it for up to 12 months in the past. If that's true then I'm thinking that the year I will turn 70 I will NOT request CPP, but instead in January of the year I turn 71 I will request CPP retroactively to when I turned 70 the previous year. This will push the CPP income from the year I turn 70 to the year I turn 71 but not impact my lifetime CPP.
  • GIS:
    • When starting GIS, I think I've seen something about request the GIS calculation to be current years income and not the previous years income. Can you remind me what that form is, where to get it and what "income" is included in the "estimated current years income"

Do the automatic GIS strategies take the above items into account?

If not, then do you have any FAQs or videos that detail the steps and overrides required to model this scenario and steps to perform to implement it?

Thanks

Feature Request - Add "Real Assets" to summary

Hi there,

The summary table is VERY useful, but now that I'm attempting to do a downsize scenario where the principle residence is sold and a less expensive primary residence is purchased I've noticed that the summary table does not include real assets. It does show any mortgage on those assets, but not the asset itself. This definitely make the summary less valuable when working with a downsize scenario..... since a big part of the plan isn't in the summary.

Note.... given the ability in Adviice to now have real assets grow more than inflation, I think it's even more valuable to add them to the summary.

Thanks

Slow to update scenario names after update

Hi there,

After the recent update it's very slow (approx 15 seconds) to update the scenario names when picking between scenarios. There was no noticeable delay previously.

For example, here's what I see initially when trying to select another scenario

And then after 15 seconds the rest of the scenario names are displayed as shown below
