Program or spreadsheet for pain tracking

Hi everyone, I’m looking for a program or app that I can use to document the progress of my recovery after surgery. I think it’s important so that you can recognize the small improvements over the course of several months.
Does anyone use something like this? I think I may have seen something similar posted here before.

Am I exercising too much?

For those who have experience with this:
I’m having surgery soon. I’ve been a long-distance runner for about 3 years and normally do strength training 3–4 times a week. Since September, however, I’ve had severe pain and can barely train, especially with weights. In December, I could hardly walk. No one knows before what’s wrong with me.
Medication and a recent cortisone injection into my hip have helped enough that I can exercise a little again. I’ve created a training plan that stays within what my body currently tolerates. Anything more causes increased pain and inflammation.
My surgery is in three months, and I’d really appreciate your opinion: Does this sound like too much exercise before surgery, or is it reasonable?

My symptoms:

-Groin pain while running now even just walking to much it is there

-Buttock pain- because of that sciatica pain

-From hip/buttock to feed everything is stiff

-Under back pain

This is my Trainingsplan:

Every Day
Cycling: 15–20 min
Massage: glutes + leg
Glute Bridge: 3 × 12 reps
Supine Hip Abduction with Resistance Band: 3 × 20 sec
Hip Flexor Exercise on Your Back with Band: 3 × 15–20 sec
Side Steps with Single-Leg Stance: 1 × 20 reps
Adductor Squeeze: 3 × 20 sec
Chair Squats: 2 × 8 reps
Plank: 3 × 40 sec

Every 2–3 Days Additionally
Upper-body exercises on machines + cycling
Thigh exercises on machines
Calf exercises

Why can hip problems like FAI or a labral tear cause piriformis syndrome?

I have FAI with a small labral tear and cartilage damage. My hip pain also radiates into my buttock, and I developed piriformis/sciatic-type symptoms.
**Why does hip pain sometimes trigger piriformis syndrome or irritate the sciatic nerve? No one can tell me that, does someone has an idea ?**

FAI/Labral Tear → Piriformis Syndrome?

I have FAI with a small labral tear and cartilage damage. My hip pain also radiates into my buttock, and I developed piriformis/sciatic-type symptoms.

I get surgery in 27th of August for my hip because the diagnostic hip infiltration was positiv!

Why does hip pain sometimes trigger piriformis syndrome or irritate the sciatic nerve? No one can explain me that!

Groin pain + slight swelling / swollen lymph node – has anyone experienced this?

Has anyone else noticed that their groin feels slightly swollen when their hip/groin pain gets worse?
I’m currently having stronger groin pain again, and on the same side I can feel a slightly enlarged lymph node. It isn’t painful.
I had the same thing last year during a period when my groin pain was very severe, and it eventually went away again.

Can only sit in the car with icing 😢

I’m on vacation. Pain as a constant companion, what a great way to relax!

I managed to get here after a 3 hour flight without too much drama, but after three days my flare ups started again. I keep wondering if it is because of the heat or because I am walking so much.
From the morning until the afternoon we usually drive about 30 minutes to the beach because we like the beach there better. I try to stay in the shade as much as possible and keep something cool on my hip. Then we drive 30 minutes back, shower, get dressed and do my makeup.
After that we drive another 30 minutes to a village or sightseeing spot. We usually arrive around 5 or 6 pm, eat something and then walk around until about 11 pm. By the time we get home, my groin is throbbing and burning and I can only manage it with painkillers.
I only have three more days left and then we fly back home.
How is it for you when you are on vacation? Does heat or a lot of walking make your symptoms worse too?

Eddit: normally I’m very active hobby runner halb marathons and doing training 3-4 in weeks. In my holidays I’m doing glute bridges, Chair Squats and Isometric Seated Hip Abduction with Band. Every day but even that make my pain more worse

Need help please !

I have a small labral tear and mild CAM impingement in my right hip and no dysplasia (surgery is scheduled for the end of August). I’ve been in pain for 14 months because my symptoms were atypical, and no one could figure out what was wrong. My main symptoms have been buttock pain due to gluteus medius tendinopathy and piriformis syndrome.
Since two weeks and yesterday again, I’ve suddenly developed severe pain in my left hip. The pain is on the outside of the hip and radiates down to my knee. I also have mild hip dysplasia on the left side.
I think the pain started after doing side-lying leg raises, and even glute bridges trigger it.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Could this just be an overuse/compensation issue, or does it sound more like a labral tear on the other side?
I’m really scared that my left hip is now affected too.

Hip Arthroscopy Success Stories – CAM Impingement, Labral Tear & Glute Tendinopathy?

Hi everyone 🫶🏼, has anyone had a successful hip arthroscopy for CAM impingement, a labral tear, piriformis Syndrom and gluteus medius tendinopathy, no dysplasia or something else.

Important 🚨 How long had you been in pain before the surgery, and how long did it take until you started feeling better afterward?
Thank you!

Simone Same with experience?

Hi everyone,

I’m a 37-year-old woman looking for anyone with a similar experience.

About 13 months ago, after an 18 km run, I developed groin pain. A few weeks later, I started having constant pain in my buttock, and that has been my main problem ever since.

I can’t stand, walk, or sit for very long anymore, and I even have pain lying on my back. An MRI found a mild hip impingement, a possible labral tear, and irritation where the gluteus medius tendon attaches.

I’ve tried lots of conservative treatments without lasting success. I also had two hip injections. After the second one, my buttock pain disappeared almost completely for about a week, but then slowly came back.

I’m now doing a very gentle strengthening program for the gluteus medius, but progress is slow.

Has anyone else had gluteus medius tendon pain that turned out to be caused by a hip problem? If you had hip arthroscopy, did the buttock pain eventually improve? How long did it take before the tendon settled down?

I’d really appreciate hearing your experience. Thank you!

What the hell is wrong with my hip?

Hi everyone,

I’ve had severe piriformis and deep buttock pain for 13 months. At first, my SI joint (SIJ) was suspected. I had multiple injections and later a SI joint denervation, which resolved the SIJ pain, but the buttock pain remained.

Only later was my hip considered. A diagnostic hip injection completely removed my pain for the first time in over a year, though it’s unclear how long this will last. If the pain returns, surgery may be considered.

My MRI shows mild femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), a possible small labral tear, and a small joint effusion. The doctor also said that early cartilage damage / early osteoarthritis cannot be reliably seen on MRI, and that only an arthroscopy could provide certainty.

These findings were reportedly not present in last year’s MRI.

I’ve attached an image of my hip MRI.

Has anyone experienced similar buttock pain from mild FAI or a labral tear, and did a hip injection help or lead to surgery?

I’m seeing a hip specialist on June 30th and hoping for a clear diagnosis after 13 months.
