Just noticed that Kurt and Nate are both credited for playing theremin on Jane Doe. Haven’t really heard it at any point on any of the songs. Maybe on the title track but not sure.
Early deftones are post hardcore, not nu metal/alt metal
I’m not usually one to care too much about genre labels, but I’ve been listening to a lot of the band Far lately, and I couldn’t help but notice the similarity between Adrenaline and Far’s Tin Cans with Strings to you. I’m guess both bands were big influences to each other early on considering how close they were, but Far saw way less success, and thus never got the commercial “nu metal” label slapped on to them. I believe if Deftones had the same outcome as Far in terms of popularity, they’d be known today as a post hardcore band. Sure, their sound was closer to “nu-metal” than Far, much like glassJAw, but they’re still nowhere near Korn, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, etc. sound wise (no hate to those bands btw).
