Informal PostDoc Interviews in the UK

From your experience, how common is it for PIs to conduct informal interviews before shortlisting!! With just about 200 applicants for one post doc position how many realistically get the informal chat ? I seem to get a lot of informal chats after I apply but handful interviews. Cannot help but wonder does it really mean anything if you get the informal interview if many others are getting it too for the same role!! Job market is tough at the moment!!

Ubiquitination experts in the house?

I am really struggling to get anything on my western blot when I probe for ubiquitin. I squish larvae in standard RIPA buffer with EDTA and protease inhibitor. I use biorad 8-16% gel, run on 150v, for Western blot- transblot transfer system with 2.5A 7 minute turbo transfer.

Mono and poly-ubiquitinylated conjugates antibody from Enzo(ABS840). But all I get is blank gel when I probe for ubiquitin but actin is most definitely there. What am I missing?

Please help :)

Why NO BANDS of low molecular weight- TGX STAIN FREE GEL(4-16%)

I have run SDS PAGE a few times now and every-time, I don’t see any bands of low molecular weight. I have tried AnyKD gel as well. Run at 200v as suggested by biorad in tris glycine buffer. Why could this be? I am so fed up!! Is this how they are supposed to be and I am loosing my mind over nothing or…I am just not cut out for this and doing it wrong over and over again.

Please share your thoughts if you have tried TGX- STAIN FREE GELS !!

How to Prep for and what to expect in 1st ever PostDoc Interview?

Hi everyone. I have a postdoc interview coming up, and I'm honestly feeling quite nervous about it. I'm currently in the thesis writing phase of my PhD in LifeSciences and haven't submitted yet. As part of the interview, I've been asked to present my PhD work. The thing is, this will be the first time I've had to present the whole PhD story from start to finish. I still feel like there are a lot of loose ends, and I'm actively writing the paper, which will probably only be published after I finish my PhD. Because of that, I'm dealing with a fair bit of imposter syndrome. I'm not sure how polished my story is supposed to be at this stage, or how much unfinished work is acceptable to discuss in a postdoc interview. Apart from reading papers from the lab and familiarising myself with their current research, I'm not really sure how best to prepare. I'm also not sure what to expect from the interview itself. What does a typical postdoc interview look like? How much of it is usually scientific discussion vs questions about fit and future plans?

For those who've been through postdoc interviews before, do you have any advice on preparation, presentations, or what to expect?
