Just got my Traveler and it already won't work.

Arrived Wednesday. Fully charged last night. Connected it to Wifi and set up a PS account. That's all I did last night. Took it with me to chemotherapy today figuring I could write during my infusion.
Nope. I turn it on, it shows the image of a factory for about 5 seconds, then goes blank. Nothing on bottom status screen, nothing on the larger screen.
Have tried hard resetting a few times to no avail.
It's been on charge a while even though I fully charged it last night. Still not working.
Am I screwed? Did they send me a bunk device?
I really couldn't afford to buy this since I'm going through cancer treatment. It was my one big splurge so that I could write during treatments. I'm so upset I just want to cry.
Has the blank screen issue hapened to anyone else?
