How "bad" is a 239 Step 2 CK for a Non-US IMG applying to Internal Medicine? Can strong USCE/Research save my application for Cycle 2027 or 2028?

Hi everyone,

My Step 2 CK score is back, and it’s 239.

How much of a red flag or filter risk this is for Internal Medicine as a Non-US IMG.

For context, I am a recent graduate and passed Step 1 on my first attempt.

I know that with a 239, top-tier university programs are probably out of the picture due to score filters. However, I want to know what my chances look like for a decent community, community-affiliated, or even a low-tier university program if I back it up with a very strong portfolio.

I looked up the data and I know, yes, a 239 is a bit below the average for matched non-US IMGs. I've been getting a lot of mixed advice lately: some people tell me it's a decent score, while others say it's going to be really tough for me to match. Honestly, it's making me pretty anxious

What do my actual matching chances look like? ? Can good USCE and research genuinely make up for a 239 and get me interviews, or am I facing a massive uphill battle here?

I would love to hear from anyone who matched into IM with similar stats. Thanks

Is my step 2ck to bad for internal medicine?

Hey guys,

I'm a Non-US IMG, passed Step 1 on my first attempt, YOG:2024 and I'm planning to apply for the 2027-2028 cycle.

Just got my Step 2 CK score back and ended up with a 239. Honestly, I'm feeling pretty bummed out about it and trying to figure out where I stand.

My goal is Internal Medicine, and I’m aiming for a decent, solid program—nothing crazy like a top-tier academic center, but a good, mid-tier university program.

Is a 239 considered a killer for IM nowadays? Do I still have a realistic shot if the rest of my app (USCE, LORs) is strong, or should I be looking into a backup plan?

Would really appreciate some honest feedback or advice from anyone who matched with similar scores. Thanks!

Huge score drop on Step 2 CK (18 points below NBME averages)

Hi everyone, I'm an NON-US IMG YOG: 1.5 years STEP 1 PASS, First attempt

I’m reaching out because I’m honestly in shock and devastated. I just got my Step 2 CK score back and it’s a 239

my NBME and Free 120 averages (which were consistently in the mid-to-high 250s).

NBME 16: 257, Amboss predictor: 256

I felt relatively okay leaving the testing center, not perfect, but definitely not as bad as I had thought. I noticed some weird pop-ups or messages on the screen during the exam, but nothing that froze the system.

I’ve always had both Internal medicine and Radiology on my mind, but I’ve definitely been leaning more towards DR lately

Is my dream of Diagnostic Radiology over?
