How "bad" is a 239 Step 2 CK for a Non-US IMG applying to Internal Medicine? Can strong USCE/Research save my application for Cycle 2027 or 2028?
Hi everyone,
My Step 2 CK score is back, and it’s 239.
How much of a red flag or filter risk this is for Internal Medicine as a Non-US IMG.
For context, I am a recent graduate and passed Step 1 on my first attempt.
I know that with a 239, top-tier university programs are probably out of the picture due to score filters. However, I want to know what my chances look like for a decent community, community-affiliated, or even a low-tier university program if I back it up with a very strong portfolio.
I looked up the data and I know, yes, a 239 is a bit below the average for matched non-US IMGs. I've been getting a lot of mixed advice lately: some people tell me it's a decent score, while others say it's going to be really tough for me to match. Honestly, it's making me pretty anxious
What do my actual matching chances look like? ? Can good USCE and research genuinely make up for a 239 and get me interviews, or am I facing a massive uphill battle here?
I would love to hear from anyone who matched into IM with similar stats. Thanks
