Bone Keeper movie

Hi y’all
Has anyone else watched “The Bone Keeper”? Definitely cosmic horror. An Asteroid
Hits prehistoric Scotland. And infects a cave system. Switch to modern times and explorers have gone missing exploring the cave. A group of young explorers decide to investigate the caves. That’s a very brief synopsis. It’s not bad. The creatures are cool though and Lovecraftian I felt. It’s not going to win many Oscar’s. But it’s worth a watch. It’s currently on Amazon Prime free

Lovecraft guides

Just ordered two books. Tour de Lovecraft destinations and Tour de Lovecraft tails. I’d never heard of these books. But as I’m planning a trip to New England and Providence in a couple of years. I thought that they might be handy. Wonder if anyone else has any view on the quality of these books.

The Deep Dark 2026

Hi all

Has anyone seen the French Language film “The Deep Dark”. It’s not amazing I don’t think it’s going to win any Oscar’s. But it is lovecraftian at least it tries to be. A group of miners are forced to take a professor underground with them to take samples. They discover crypt unknowingly wake up a creature. Even quoting Lovecraft at one point. It’s free on Amazon Prime so worth a watch

Cloverfield

Who feels the Cloverfield Creature is a bit like a Great Old One? It’s not like Godzilla or Kong. This thing is Alien. Though not Cthulhu it certainly has many of the Traits to be a cosmic horror entity.

Play Style

Hi.

I’ve been into Lovecraft on and off since 1980. And played the RPG quite a bit. Though not for a while. I’m curious on what others play style is. I’m very traditional. I like my games set in the 1920s or Gaslight. More research and discovery than direct combat. My games often would involve no more than 3 people. And they would be ordinary folk that have stumbled into the Mythos or some other mystery. I try to keep my games very grounded and a sense of dread.

But CoC can be many things to many people. And the play style and settings can vary depending on tastes. So I’d like to ask what is popular amongst other players.

Thanks

CoC online

Hi all.

So is anyone playing Call of Cthulhu using Roll 20 or similar online services? I’m looking to join in with games. Living in my location I cannot find players interested in playing. I’m a mature gamer. First played in 81. But haven’t played in quite a while.

Lovecraft and Horror movies

I read that Lovecraft saw Universal movies Dracula and Frankenstein and hated them because they didn’t follow the books. Apparently he didn’t like films that stayed too far from their source. In fact he walked out halfway through Dracula. Can you imagine how he would feel if he saw one of the movies based on his own works? Dunwich Horror example but any of them really

Lovecraft and Sonia H Greene

You know when I look at photos of Lovecraft with Sonia. He is the happiest I think I’ve seen him. I think she brought him out of himself. Photos after their separation he looks always a little lost. Of course it is easy to imagine these feelings. But she does seem to be his first and only love. And as mentioned previously maybe it is why he never signed the divorce papers. There is something that feels a little tragic here. Does anyone’s else see the change ?

Sonia

I’ve long been fascinated by the woman who married Lovecraft. Sonia H Greene. And in early photos of the pair they look happy. Even more interesting is her daughter Florence (Later Carol Weld) And by marriage Lovecrafts Step Daughter I think she was around 20 when Sonia and Howard wed. Lovecraft doesn’t seem to have been too impressed with Florence calling her sullen and brattish in one of his letters. And Sonia had a strained relationship with her as well. This seemed to have been brought on when Sonia refused to allow Florence to marry her Step Uncle.

But I think Sonia must have cared for Florence very much. I cannot find much else. But Sonia did write a poem simply called “To Florence”. At this stage I’m seem to be unable to track this poem down. Does anyone here know where I can find it? I would really like to read it.

Many thanks

Cold Kin

Hi has anyone Else watched Cold Skin? It’s definitely worth a watch. Shadow over Innsmouth is one of my favourite Lovecraft stories. But I’ve always had a problem envisioning the Deep Ones as a species. The creatures in Cold Skin kind of solves this. It certainly feels Lovecraftian. And I remember reading the director was inspired by Lovecraft. It kind of makes the Deep Ones more real.
Any thoughts ?

Got cross

I know this is going to be a bit of a rant and I apologise in advance for that. But I recently got quite cross.
I was talking with a group of University lecturers when the subject of HPL came up. Naturally my interest sparked. One of them mentioned that he was going to write a book of Lovecrafts poetry. I was keen to know more, I should point out that I do not consider myself to be anywhere near the expert in these matters. But I mentioned that I’d be interested in that and asked if he would be adding Fungi from Yogoth? And was met with a blank stare. I recited a line from The Nightgaunt “But if only they would make a sound or wear a face where faces should be found” Again this fell on stoney ground. I asked if he had read The Music of Erich Zann? He had no idea what I was talking about. I soon came to the conclusion that this fella knew nothing about the subject. I was that pretty much banned from the conversation after this. I don’t really no know why but I felt terribly insulted. I wasn’t trying to be clever. Just thought I had found someone who had a similar interest to share. And I needed to vent this here. I enjoy this Reddit because we can talk and share information. You are all a smashing bunch. Thank goodness for that

The Mist

I watched the Mist again last night. (The movie version) I couldn’t help but think it must have been inspired by Lovecrafts “From Beyond”. The suggestion the military up in the hills had be experimenting with other dimensions and they had somehow opened a door to these dimensions smacked of Lovecraft.

Innsmouth Bus

Found the Diecast Corgi model of a Bedford 1920s/30s coach. I’m a Call of Cthulhu RPG enthusiast and thought it would make a great prop for the Arkham-Innsmouth bus. Obviously it’s going to require a paint job. I’m thinking dark green body with cream roof. But I’m open to suggestions. Maybe someone who knows the story better than I

Arkham locations

Greetings fellow Lovecraftians
I’ve been a fan of Lovecraft for many years. And now planning a trip to the US namely Providence and visit some of the locations I’ve previously only read about. Now I’ve retired I finally have more time though sadly less funds. So frantically saving. I reside in the UK

This is the first of a number of posts I’ll be placing here for information on locations. The first being Arkham. Now of course I know the place doesn’t exist. But I’d be interested to know any thoughts, suggestions or Lovecrafts own descriptions on the Location of Arkham or its influences, buildings, places and indeed the real Arkham if there is one etc. please keep your suggestions and information relevant to Arkham only as we will be covering other places in a later post.

It’s going to be at least a year before I can make my trip. So plenty of time to do research to cover the best possible amount. Not getting any younger. And there maybe only one shot at this.

Thanks in advance

Dunwich Horror

Way back when in the very early 80s when VHS was the hight of technology and I was fast becoming aware of Lovecraft (I’m that old) And playing Call of Cthulhu with some great friends. I would search out old books anywhere I could and look out for any movies that had a lovecraftian flavour. I became aware of a movie I think produced in the 70s. Called the Dunwich horror. I loved it at the time. It’s not without its flaws and certainly moves away from the original story. Yet I still return to it from time to time. And still enjoy watching it. I think it tried to do its best. Wilbur is nothing like his counterpart in the book. But there is still something about this old film I like. Maybe it’s the nostalgia of those early days and my old gaming group who I miss terribly. Or maybe it’s just the quirky old film and the soundtrack. Anyone else have opinions on this movie?

New here

Hi all. I’m new here, I’ve had an interest in Lovecraft since around 1981 when the RPG was released. I played a lot of Dungeons and Dragons back in the day. And when CoC was released I travelled up to London to pick up a copy. I think it changed my perspective on gaming and my fascination with Lovecraft. I searched everywhere for his stories and correspondence with Arkham House and the Necronomicon Press. Then I did all the silly things like got married and raised a family and my interest and priorities got diverted. However recently I’ve been returning to Lovecraft rereading the stories and other works. And yes playing the games. Though it can be quite hard finding gamers with the same interests in my small village. But my collection is starting to grow again. And I even have plans to visit the States in a couple of years. So with all the renewed interest I decided to reach out to other like minded people hence my post. Who else became interested in Lovecraft largely because of the game? I’m sure it had an influence on raising awareness of Lovecraft. Though I had heard of him before the games release it certainly influenced me. Look forward to hearing from others with similar interests.
