Some random thoughts on Tomb Quest rewatch
Tomb Quest is so good, and I was really impressed from the beginning: the incredible storyline, the jokes, the songs and choreos, Curt being adorable as always, Joey once again managing to make an a**hole character lovable, Lauren being perfect once more, Corey making every second on stage count with his stellar performance, Kim absolutely killing it with her solos, AJ being funny and crazy and blowing me away with his glorious lower register right before the intermission...
But I have to say, the rewatch was even better! So, as I'm a little obsessed right now, I just wanted to share some thoughts :)
Whispers on the Wind is such a masterpiece! Not only the music, but also the way it's built up, tells the story, perfectly fits the characters, and keeps getting better and better... Perfection!
>!Did Kim actually hurt her hand when she broke the glass? Was that meant to happen? I mean, the scene is perfect, but what would her hand look like if she did this every day? (Also, how cool is it that they use the right childhood picture depending on who plays Kevin?)!<
Watching shows at home doesn't often make me cry, but rewatching Tomb Quest really did, and the first tissue moment wasn't even sad at all! I was just enjoying the lovely moment between Sammy and Kevin in “Blood Oath” when Joey's beautiful voice hit me and made me think of all this Starkid history, and how good it felt to see these legends singing a duet again. It made this already perfect scene even more wholesome and emotional. And then I'm not even mentioning that incredible choreography!
>!Maybe not intentional, but in “Blood Oath,” everything Kevin says seems to be purely fictional (except maybe the first promise about the drinks, and he even wants to revoke that one), while Sammy's promises mostly refer to real-life problems (like being dumb). It feels like Kevin has always been living in his fantasy world (like with the Nigerian prince) while Sammy got disillusioned, but they still find each other towards the end...!<
I love Sammy so much! >!Her introduction of Samestra killed me. She's so hilariously relatable, but also the way she talks in character, how she always turns to Gary, the role-playing solution, the way she's mouthing the words Gary's saying, the contrast between her and the exaggerated reactions of the theater kids... I just couldn't stop laughing! I was so happy with Samestra's ending too. The fact that Sammy could choose any fantasy she wanted but just described a slightly better version of her own life made me feel like, underneath all her grumpiness, Sammy really is quite happy after all, and I think that's so heartwarming!!<
