Necessary being and will

I’m comparing two explanations for why the universe exists:

  1. A conscious necessary being (God) created it through will/choice.
  2. A non-conscious necessary reality exists and naturally generates universes (maybe infinitely many), and we observe this one because life can only exist in certain universes.
    My question:
If the necessary reality is non-conscious, and universes started existing at some point, what explains the transition from no universes to universes?
If there’s no will or agency, why would universe generation start at one point rather than another?
Doesn’t a transition imply some kind of choice? Or can an impersonal necessary reality explain contingency without will?
And if universe generation is eternal/infinite, does that avoid the issue or just create infinite regress?
What assumptions am I getting wrong, and which view seems stronger philosophically?

Admission chances?

I applied in early March for MS/PhD in ECE after interviewing with a PI. He seemed interested in my profile and told me to apply asap but he did say that admission might be difficult due to the late application. I applied and few weeks back my application moved from admission to faculty review and last week I had an assessment which went ok, not very good not very bad. But my application hasn't moved ahead and PI is not replying as well to my mails. I'm concerned about the upcoming eid holidays. If I don't hear anything before 22nd May should I consider this a rejection? Or are there still chances?

Hi. I have applied for PhD in ECE for fall 2026 and I'm currently in faculty review. I got an email about an assessment for the admission involving programming, data structure and algorithms. I wanted to ask if anyone here has any experience with this assessment. And what type of questions to expect and how to best prepare.
Thanks

Hi. I wanted to ask if i had the option to go to either Kaust or Florida Atlantic university for phd in ECE, what would you recommend. Given that fau's qs ranking is 1000+ and Kaust is among top 50.
