Is the job scope creep for data analytics getting out of hand?
I recently finished an interview for a senior business developer role, and the requirements they were looking for seemed completely unreasonable. Not necessarily the knowledge required, but in my previous experience this role would have required at least 3 separate individuals if not 3 distinct teams.
- 1st they wanted the developer to manager the entire ETL/datawarehouse process.
- 2nd they wanted the developer to manage the data in SQL and run reports/queries from SQL.
- 3rd the role would be required to build dashboards in a BI tool.
- 4th they wanted that same person to take all that data and present it to senior leadership, give actionable insights, and get their feedback into how to modify those dashboards/build new dashboards.
To me, each one of these is its own role. I've previous combined 3-4 in a few jobs and 2-3 in another, but the first requirement on its own always had an entire dedicated team.
Is this the new expectation in the job market? For an analyst to be an engineer, data analyst, business analyst and product owner?
