Eating Disorder FF/EMT Question

Hello all!

I am a 21 year old college student currently employed as a lifeguard but I am enrolling in EMT school and plan to attend fire academy soon after.

I have a history of anorexia in my youth and I have OCD, this would not effect my ability to preform my duties as a firefighter as I am in stable mental condition as well as in shape physically. I suffer zero physical side effects as a result of my disorder.

However I do track my calories and weigh out all of my food. I do not restrict nor attempt to lose weight but I do diet intensively. As a result of this it is noticeable and I do not wish to tell people.

I heard that very frequently the station will pool together money for meals. I do not plan on eating said meals, I don’t mind contributing for the stations sake. But I don’t know what to tell everyone when I am weighing out my 99/1 lean ground turkey and eating separately from them.

Reservations Regarding Police Work

Hello!

I am a 21 year old college student studying mathematics. This context is important as I very much enjoy school and do not wish to unenroll from my courses.

I work as a part time lifeguard currently and have found this to be the most fulfilling job I have ever worked. Many of my shifts are uneventful with absolutely nothing happening, but the few times I have had the opportunity to save a life have been both simultaneously scary but also the most fulfilling part of my job. Even when I am working for months without needing to save a life I still feel fulfilled in knowing I am making the environment safer for all parties involved.

For further context I work at one of the most visited water parks in the United States, I have a background in first aid and CPR. So I do regularly deal with emergency scenarios and have to utilize said skills.

As a child I always wanted to be a police officer but growing up and seeing more and more horror stories of police brutality come to light I became less and less interested. I want to make a positive difference and I do not wish to be a part of any abuse of power.

I feel very strongly that police are an overall force for good but the idea of corruption or having to follow orders that are just downright cruel seem agonizing to me. I would love to make life safer for the people in my community but I wish to avoid violent altercations as much as possible. I don't even view every single criminal as a bad person. For instance a single mother stealing food from a grocery store is most certainly committing a crime but I understand where she is coming from with hungry kids in the house.

The university I attend offers a police academy that I could pay to partake in, I would love to work as a police officer and be an even stronger force for good in my community than I currently achieve as a lifeguard. I still want time for school, and I fear the realities of the job and potential corruption may be something that makes me not enjoy it. School is very important to me, I wish to obtain a PHD in the future.

I by no means think that all departments are corrupt, nor do I feel that every officer in a corrupt department is a dirty cop. I just genuinely want to do good and don't want anything to hinder that.

Thank you for reading, any advice is appreciated.
