Hardware removal in 2 weeks!!

I AM SO EXCITED. I can’t wait to have all this metal out of my foot. Surgery scheduled for September 2nd. 9mo post op and ~10mo post initial injury. Surgeon said he will try his best to remove all hardware unless something is broken or too deeply seeded. Bye bye 3 plates and 12 screws (hopefully). My pain level hasn’t improved since I graduated from PT in June and still nerve pain but controlled okay with gabapentin. It’s been so hard, everyday hoping I can return to semi-normal function with the hardware intact but it is just too symptomatic to be worth keeping in.

Anyone have any pro tips to plan ahead? I feel so much better equipped to handle it this time around, and know most things I can plan ahead for. Only downside is that I have limited PTO so I will take 5 working days off (will return to work Thursday-Friday) but considering using my last remaining sick day and my Flex Time to take those last two days off. So it’s not the best. I’ll be cinched for time until next year when I get more PTO.

But I know I’ll be cleared to bear weight after two weeks post HWR. So I could walk by the time I’m back the following week. I will definitely miss being able to walk and drive (even though it’s a lot less time being NWB like initial surgery).

Tips? Anything you wish you could do better if you had to go through HWR again? I feel seasoned at this already but just feeling some anxiety about it all. I would so appreciate it!

It’s been such a long road. I hope this gives me some kind of closure since it’s just a daily reminder of what happened to me.

Cheers, and hope you’re all doing well!

Summer sandals for a Frankenfoot?!

Hi all!!

I’m going on vacation to the beach for me and my boyfriend’s anniversary next month. I am seeing if anyone here has any recommendations for sandals that are easy on the franc’d up foot. And hopefully stylish too. I’m 7mo P/O and going to be 8mo at the time we are going on vacay.

I currently have my Clark’s Cloudsteppers, which have very soft cloth straps with Velcro fasteners and good arch support, so I like them a lot, even pre-lisfranc with my plantar fasciitis/flat feet. But the bottom of the sole is still quite flat and not as rocker-style & ergonomic as my Altra Olympus 2’s, which I can’t wear on the beach lol.

I’m wondering if there’s anything that’s even easier on the foot (less restricting but still a firm ergonomic sole) so I can do more long distance walking. I am okay in my crocs, but don’t think they’re good for long walks. I haven’t tried out walking very much in my current sandals though, but I don’t think they’ll be the best either.

Anyone have any good recommendations, like what worked best for you? Thanks so much and hope you’re all well!!

I’m so excited. I’m almost 6 mo post op. Long journey so far and finally formally diagnosed with complex regional pain syndrome. Really hard to deal with the pain. BUT, I realized just last week that I can fit in my old crocs again. They’re a bit too tight, but I ordered a new pair in a size up. I know crocs have mixed opinions, but they were my favorite spring/summer shoe and missed them so much. So comfortable and easy to slip on and off, vs my Altra running & hike shoes. I tried my old crocs on, walked around with them fine, and drove around using them too. I really missed them.

It’s such a small victory but needed to share. I’m gonna be done with PT somewhere in the neighborhood of late May, and having a follow up in early May to see how I’m doing. Then I’ll finally be graduated!!!
