The Constitution was not built to withstand this level of corruption
The Constitution was originally written to construct a system that would never allow this level of corruption anywhere near the White House. If you read the founding arguments, they're obsessed with exactly this: factions, foreign money, men who would treat public office as private property. The branches, the veto, the courts, the press they kept free, all of it was scaffolding against this.
For the last 250 years, the loopholes have been found one by one. Money became speech, so donors became buyers. The parties learned the primaries and the maps, so accountability became optional. The pardon power, written for mercy, got quietly repurposed for loyalty. None of it broke the rules on paper, and that's my point, the rules just stopped describing the game.
Then this administration walked through all of it at once. The trades that keep timing the announcements, the donors who buy the meeting and leave with the job, the family deals run out in the open because nobody's even pretending the forms matter anymore. The floodgates aren't just leaking anymore, they're totally blown open.
This is about basic fairness. If a worker breaks the rules, there are consequences. The same should be true for politicians and big donors. Real oversight and independent watchdogs are how we fight corruption and make sure power is not abused, and the only way forward is a complete change of the laws, real limits on the money, real walls between the office and the portfolio, watchdogs who can't be fired by the people they're watching.
Two hundred fifty years later and the Constitution is no longer doing its job. Rebuild it.
